A hill-country gem for all BBQ lovers, this is a restaurant you must try. We love to make the little drive out here whenever we have the chance. The endless argument over which state has the best BBQ, this place definitely makes Brent second guess his beliefs.
If you feel like breathing in some fresh air, Mount Bonnell is a great place to get your outdoor adventures started and witness some of the incredible views the city has to offer. A short (but steep!) hike leads you to an amazing vantage point of the Colorado River.
For a city experience, head to South Congress Avenue, also known as SoCo. A variety of unique shops and Austin-original eateries, it makes for a fun and interesting walk that really captures the essence of Austin and gives you a straight view to the capital building.
For my 40th birthday, Brent arrived a day early not knowing my big party had been moved to the next day, meaning he would have to miss it. He has never quite gotten over that. Luckily, we made the most of it and went to eat at Culinary Dropout. It has since become a tradition to go here and order the fried chicken. If you get the chance while you're visiting, I promise it won't disappoint.
If you're feeling artsy, the Blanton Museum of Art is a great place to check out. Located right on the UT campus, the Blanton houses the largest and most comprehensive collection of art in Central Texas
The Austin food truck scene is not to be taken lightly. If you have a sweet-tooth, Manolis is the best place to get your fix. They have a wide selection of house-made ice creams and European-style desserts and they are ALL delicious.
If the big city life isn't for you, Wimberley is small town tucked away nearby in the hill country. It is a unique town with a town square that you can take an entire afternoon to explore. Food, shopping, and nature, there's bound to be something for everyone.
