How We Met

7th Grade

Anyone who knows Samara knows boundaries are not her forte, and that has always been true! We met on our first day of 7th grade. She was talking to her friend before class, and I was sitting behind her playing with my Tech Decks. Out of nowhere she turned to me, reached across my desk, grabbed a fistful of my shirt, and breathed deeply. She then let go and told me how good I smell. I was too caught off guard to say anything other than thank you, and for years I wondered what could have been if I’d been able to say something back. We talked throughout school, but after high school we lost touch. Then one March day in 2016, again out of nowhere, I get a Facebook message from that weird, boundary-less, beautiful girl, and that time I made sure I knew what to say back to her.

The Proposal

November 16, 2018

One afternoon I'm nearing the end of my workday, and Aaron texts me asking how soon I'll be off work. I say 10 minutes, and shortly thereafter I leave the office. My coworker and I leave the building and we start walking through Bellevue. We get to this outdoor courtyard with a pond and winter flowers and trees, and all of a sudden I get a phone call from Aaron. I answer, but he's whispering so I can't hear him very well. After a few more whispers I finally hear what he's saying, and he's telling me to turn around. I turn around, and there he is in the courtyard on one knee. I later learned that weeks prior he had switched shifts with his coworker so that he would be off early to have time to stalk me at work and surprise me with a proposal. It worked!
