Samantha and Walker first met at their alma mater, Sunnyslope High School before reconnecting a decade later. They stayed in touch in the meantime as pen pals when Walker went off to the University of North Carolina. Ten years passed, during which Samantha graduated from the University of Arizona and moved to San Diego. When she came home to Phoenix, she contacted Walker and they met for their first date at Walker's favorite downtown spot, Phoenix Public Market Cafe. What started as a friendly reconnection quickly became something more.

Three years later, Walker and Samantha were celebrating their anniversary ‘stray-cation’ in Palm Springs. They had a wonderful day hiking through the Tahquitz Canyon, brunching at Cheeky's, taking a self-guided Midcentury home tour and relaxing by the Saguaro Hotel pool. To end this perfect day Walker had made dinner reservations, but at the last minute added in a sunset gondola ride to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. They rode the world's largest rotating tram car 8,516 feet to the top of the mountain, and as they stepped out onto the observation deck Walker got down on both knees and popped the question! Surrounded by some very kind strangers Samantha said yes, and the rest is history!
