It all began at West Virginia University, where two eager freshmen, Sami and Josh, were assigned to live just two doors apart in Arnold Hall—Sami in room 115, Josh in 113. One evening during their first week, Sami and some friends set out to meet more neighbors. Meanwhile, Josh, ever thoughtful, had just returned from the gym and didn’t want to wake his sleeping roommate. So he took his food out to the hallway, sitting on the floor, making a PB&J. That’s when Sami walked by—and fate did its thing. A friendship quickly bloomed and unknowingly, laid the foundation for something much deeper. Their dorm became a place of football watch parties, hallway frisbee, cereal box wiffle ball, and full-blown water fights. By sophomore year, Josh and Sami were study buddies in Statistics 101 and gym partners pushing each other every day. They spent nearly every moment together and became the best of friends—or so Sami thought. The summer before junior year brought visits to each other’s hometowns—Stamford, CT and Berkeley Springs, WV—and Sami joined the Keefer family on her first (of many) beach trips. Still hesitant, Sami worried that taking a leap into a relationship might risk their beautiful friendship. But Josh gently asked, “What if it doesn’t end?” That was all it took. On October 28, 2017, they officially began their love story. From that point on, they were inseparable. They navigated the challenges of college life side by side, made room for each other’s families during holidays, and graduated together with degrees in Exercise Physiology. Then came the next big adventure—medical school. Though attending different schools—Josh at Marshall, Sami at WVSOM—their relationship only grew stronger. They embraced long distance with study dates, FaceTimes, and weekend visits. Just before board exams, Josh surprised Sami with a weekend getaway to a cozy bed and breakfast in Harrisonburg, VA. In a romantic barn filled with rose petals, photos from their journey, and champagne, he asked her to marry him. And, true to form, he had another surprise waiting—both families gathered at a nearby restaurant to celebrate the moment together. During Sami’s third year of medical school, she was able to start rotations near Josh, and they finally moved back in together. Now, they’re beginning the next chapter side by side—taking on the adventure of General Surgery Residency together. From dorm room hallways to hospital hallways, from PB&Js to proposals, theirs is a story built on friendship, laughter, and a love that keeps growing. And this is only the beginning.
