Question

Do I need any travel documents?

Answer

If you live outside of the UK, YES. To travel to the UK starting in 2025, along with your passport you will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) if you are a visa-exempt national who is not British or Irish: • Non-European citizens:
The ETA will be mandatory for travel starting January 8, 2025. Applications for non-European citizens can be submitted starting November 27, 2024
 • European citizens:
The ETA will be mandatory for travel starting April 2, 2025. Applications for European citizens can be submitted starting March 5, 2025.
The ETA is not a visa, but rather an advanced authorization to travel to the UK. It allows for multiple entries to the UK for visits up to six months over two years, or until the passport expires. The ETA fee is £16 and applications are made online: https://www.gov.uk/eta

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

The dress code is formal attire (long dresses for ladies, and kilts or suits of any color for gentlemen [tie optional]). The ceremony will take place outside so please keep that in mind when considering a jacket or wrap. Don't worry, we know it sometimes (read: often) rains in Scotland -- there will be a covering in case of inclement weather.

Question

To kilt or not to kilt?

Answer

Both kilts and suits are common at weddings in Scotland. You are welcome to wear whichever option feels most comfortable! Kilt hire is simple and includes all required pieces (including shoes), and the shop will guide you through the process of measuring at home to make sure your kilt is the right size before booking. Hire outfits come in multiple different styles and tartans, you can choose the one that speaks to you most. Please note that we kindly ask that guests do not hire the Highland Granite or Highland Mist tartans as those are being worn by the groomsmen party. There are multiple different hire shops in the Edinburgh city center. As you will most likely need to pick up and drop off your kilt hire from the shop, it is recommended to select a shop that is easily accessible for you. Below are a few shops that are in central locations within Edinburgh: Gordon Nicholson The Scotland Kilt Company 8 Yards McCalls Highlandwear

Question

How do I get to the venue?

Answer

There will be shuttle buses leaving from the Virgin Hotel at 2 pm sharp (5 min walk from Apex hotel) (Grassmarket area) and returning back at midnight to the hotel after the wedding. The shuttle bus company is Happy Days Mini Bus & Coach. Please be on time. You can also take a taxi to and from the venue. There are many taxi companies in the Edinburgh area and we strongly recommend booking in advance. Uber does operate in Edinburgh but cars are limited and therefor often unreliable. Below are a few taxi companies and their phone numbers: - Central Taxis +44 131 229 2468 - McKenzie Cars +44 7967 432 485 - Dalmeny Cars +44 131 3000 767 - City Cabs +44 131 228 1211 If you are driving, parking is available at the venue.

Answer
