How We Met

_

Sam: The evening before my family and I were evacuated due to the Oroville Spillway event, we had family arrive unexpectedly to see the spillway. Dinner options at our house were slim so I ran to Wagon Wheel to grab a few items. The store was closing within 10 minutes but I knew what I needed and promised to be quick. I ordered quickly, chatted with a very helpful employee, checked out, and b-lined it back home. We evacuated to our friend's house in Kelly Ridge and needed some breakfast items to feed a house full of refugees. We went to Wagon Wheel (the only store that hadn't been evacuated) to buy some of the basics. The young man I had seen two days before caught my attention and asked if I was "involved." Tired and irritated about our current situation, I wasn't picking up on him asking me out. He was patient and kindly asked me out to coffee. I declined for the time being due to minimal sleep and the concern that he was under 21 (coffee?). His boss, Pat Butler, talked Buck up on numerous occasions and encouraged me to give him a chance. Buck and I reconnected a few weeks later and went on our first date, which was a lovely picnic at the Little Grass Valley Reservoir. Buck: Sam came into the store during the "damocopolypse" and I asked her to coffee.
