Sam and Nancy met on the dating app, Hinge, in 2022, shortly after Nancy moved to the area for work. Their first date was dinner at Farmhouse Thai Kitchen. They barely touched their food because they had such a great time chatting. It was love at first sight. As Sam drove away that night, the song, "Traingazing," rang in his ears.
On one of Sam and Nancy's early dates, Nancy learned that Sam's birthday was coming up (January 1st). She wanted to celebrate with him. That evening, they cooked Japanese oxtail curry together, and Nancy baked Sam a cake. At the end of the day, Nancy asked Sam, "Are you my boyfriend?". To which, Sam replied, "Do you want me to be?". Nancy then nodded aggressively. They have been inseparable ever since.
On November 3rd, 2023, Nancy's friend from college, Joyce, was visiting the Bay Area. She and Nancy had plans to spend the day together. Unbeknownst to Nancy, Sam was planning to propose that day and had been in contact with Joyce about the proposal. He had also roped in his good friend, Jason, whom he knew from middle school, to be their engagement photographer. That day, Nancy and Joyce were planning to go to Cantor Arts Center at Stanford in the afternoon to look at the Rodin sculptures. Sam instructed Joyce to lead Nancy to the clock tower at Stanford around 4PM, where he was planning to propose. Nancy was taking a long time looking at the art in the museum though, so Joyce had to rush her through all the exhibits. When they got to the location, Nancy was surprised to see that Sam was there. He told her he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life, got down on one knee, and proposed. It was a magical moment, and she said yes.
Nancy and Sam officially tied the knot at Santa Clara City Hall at the end of 2023. They opted to later have a ceremony with family and friends in 2025. Why 2025, you may ask? It is after the Lunar New Year of the Dragon! And as it so happens, Nancy was born in the year of the Dragon. An old Chinese tradition is for one to refrain from hosting major events in the year of their birth animal 😂. (Also, it made it easier to book the beautiful Stanford Memorial Church...)
They've had 1.5 years to plan the wedding of their dreams -- and are touched to celebrate it with you!
