Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve
The Monteverde Biological reserve is a stunning and accessible adventure! Here you can see wildlife, cloudy treetops, and plenty of beautiful plants. The trails through the forest are fairly flat and are very well maintained, so this will feel more like a walk than a hike with overlooks and a few hanging bridges. This is a lovely and easy walk! We also HIGHLY recommend exploring the hummingbird garden near the parking lot. You will see so many new species and can visit the gift shop as well. Just be careful of the hummingbirds, they will dive bomb you as they chase each other!
Oficinas Reserva Bosque Nuboso Santa Elena
The Santa Elena Cloud Forest is a great option if you're looking for a hike to see the local flora and fauna. There are various trails you can take with wooden or hanging bridges and beautiful overlooks. You can choose your path, which gives you some options on how difficult or long you'd like your hike to be. But this is definitely more of a traditional hike on uneven dirt paths. Wear your hiking shoes on this one!
Sky Tram Monteverde
Want a fun option to see the cloud forest without the hiking? There is a Sky Tram! While Sam and I have not yet tried this out, it is definitely on our list. You can relax in a gondola that takes you through the cloud forest canopy on a 1 mile trip that ascends 5,700 feet above sea level, with an observation tower and cafe at the top.
El Trapiche Coffee, Chocolate, & Sugar Tour
There are several chocolate and coffee tours in Monteverde, but this one was recommended by a friend who really enjoyed the tour. She also saw some wildlife while on the tour!
Wildlife Refuge Monteverde
The Wildlife Refuge Monteverde is a conservation area of 55 acres of forest and gardens. They offer a variety of activities including night tours, birdwatching tours, and natural history tours.
Treetopia Park
Treetopia park is close to Santa Elena and has lots of fun adventure options! hanging bridges, cable trams through the forest, ropes courses, and ziplines!
100% Aventura Puentes Colgantes Monteverde
100% Aventura Adventure Park has hanging bridge tours, and a zipline canopy tour that includes a hanging bridge, rappelling, a mega Tarzan swing, and the longest zipline in Costa Rica! This is where you'll find us post-wedding
Monteverde Butterfly Gardens
Looking for an option that doesn't involve being suspended in air? Visit the butterfly garden! They have up to 30 species of butterflies and over 20 species of live insects and arachnids, as well as an active leaf-cutter ant colony which are very impressive to see!
The Bat Jungle
You'll see plenty of bats flying around at sunset, so why not go see them up close? Visit the Bat Jungle! They have 45 minute guided tours to see and learn about 8 different species of bats.
