FAQs

Question

How should I get to Monteverde?

Answer

We recommend renting a car, as it will give you the most flexibility to get around. However if you want a more affordable choice, there are shuttles and buses that run from San Jose around Costa Rica.

Question

What is the Dress Code?

Answer

The dress code is Rainforest Cocktail. Yes, we made that up. What does it mean? No idea, so interpret that how you will and show us what you got. The ceremony will be outside, so wear shoes and apparel you'll be comfortable in.

Question

When should I arrive? How long should I stay?

Answer

This is entirely up to you and what you want to do in Costa Rica! We recommend getting to Monteverde by Thursday afternoon. Other than that, plan your trip around what you want to see and do around the country. Our plans around the wedding are open and flexible, so we'd like to see how long you're staying and what you want to do. If you are coming for a single work week (arriving the weekend before the wedding and leaving on Saturday/Sunday after the wedding), we will likely be headed to Monteverde on Tuesday or Wednesday. If you have more time to stay after the wedding, we will likely be trying to squeeze in more activities in Monteverde or looking for some fun day trips nearby with anyone who wants to check out more areas. We are thinking we may head to the beach on Sunday after the wedding at the moment. So pick what looks like fun, plan your travels around that, and let us know what you're up to!

Question

Where is the registry?

Answer

No registry - no gifts please! Making the trip down to Costa Rica for our wedding is more than enough. We would love for you to join us for a fun activity instead - ziplining, chocolate and coffee tasting, rafting, whatever! It shall be epic.

Question

What Should I Pack?

Answer

We recommend doing your research on the areas you'll be visiting, as Monteverde will be a different climate than other areas given its high altitude. If you're going to the beach, you'll want clothing for hot weather and definitely a bathing suit. Costa Rica in March is the start of the hot reason, so temperatures will average around 86-96 degrees. Sunscreen and bug spray is a must! Monteverde is cooler due to its altitude. Temperatures will range from 64-82 degrees in March, and get cooler at night. Bring something warm for the evenings and you'll definitely want clothing for activities such as ziplining, rafting, hiking, etc. It is a cloud forest, so the sun will not be quite as direct but we still recommend bug spray and sunscreen. No judgement here if you hide in Monteverde the entire trip!

Question

What is the money situation?

Answer

The Costa Rica currency is the Colon. 1 Colon is equal to .0020 USD. So when you see a price listed, divide it by 1,000 then multiply by 2 to get the approximate price in USD. For example, something that costs 5,000 colones will be about $10 USD. Many places accept credit or debit card, but it is a good idea to get some cash out (plus the cash is beautiful!), especially for small vendors. You can get some at most US banks before you travel, or upon your arrival at the currency exchange desks in the airport. There will also be banks in Monteverde if you wish to withdraw money there, though there may be a fee.
