SUN PROTECTION Please beware of how intense the sun is here on the island- UV index is very high, meaning you will get sunburnt very quickly. Take the appropriate steps to protect yourself from the sun while enjoying the island: -Sun wear (sunglasses, big hats, sun hoodies and sun shirts are recommended; even a beach umbrella can be helpful) -Reef Safe Sun Screen - make sure you are using non-toxic reef safe mineral sunscreen to help preserve the rapidly dying coral reefs. CORAL REEF & LAVA ROCK The shoreline on the big island is very young made of mostly recent lava flows. This lava rock, and costal coral, can be very sharp and fragile. Please walk carefully and wear appropriate footwear. PACIFIC OCEAN The pacific ocean is an unruly place. Be careful when in the ocean. -Watch where people are entering the ocean, if they aren't, you shouldn't! -Do not touch or take anything from the island. Especially animals!
We would appreciate all RSVP's by December 15th, 2024
The most convenient accommodation would be found in downtown Kailua-Kona, or along Ali'i Drive. The Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, Royal Kona Kona Resort, or the Holiday Inn Express in Kailua-Kona would be some of the larger hotels in downtown. AirBnb's and vacation rentals can also be found along Ali'i Drive and may be a better value, especially for those looking for a kitchen, as dining out adds up very quickly in Hawaii. Any accommodation that is not in downtown Kona or on Ali'i Drive will require frequent transportation for nearly all sightseeing, errands, or meals so a rental car would be especially helpful.
It is up to the guests to organize their own transportation TO the ceremony venue. For those of you staying in downtown Kailua-Kona or along Ali'i Drive, there is a trolly/shuttle that runs along Ali'i Drive (roughly everyone 15-20 minutes) and you would be able to get off at Ali'i & Royal Poinciana. Parking will also be available, but limited, along the street and near the Living Stone's Church. We will have shuttles organized to take guests from the reception venue to downtown Kailua-Kona for the after party.
We will be hosting a meet & greet at the Kona Salt Farm on Friday, January 31st. 4:30pm - 8:30pm. Food & drink will be provided. We hope people arrive a few days early to get used to any time differences and see more of the beautiful Island of Hawaii.
Just a few of the activities that you can't experience anywhere else: Kayak and snorkel at Kealakekua Bay. Take coffee farm tour at Heavenly Hawaiian Coffee or Greenwell Farms Snorkel with manta rays at night. Visit the summit of Mauna Kea for sunset and stargazing. Visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and hike across a volcanic caldera and through an underground lava tube. Take a helicopter tour of the island and see active volcanos, fresh lava flow, rainforests, waterfalls, and valleys. Swim, snorkel, surf, or relax at some of the amazing beaches along our coastline (see FAQ page for our favorites).
The sightseeing in "downtown" Kailua-Kona is fairly limited, so nearly everything else will require transportation. Some activities can be done with Uber/Lyft but for those of you looking to do more extensive sightseeing and explore the island, a rental car would be a necessity.
Just some of our favorite beaches (listed by distance from downtown Kona): Magic Sands Beach (a couple miles South of downtown, on Ali'i drive) Pine Trees Beach (good surf and great place to picnic, not ideal swimming) Kua Bay (white sands with great swimming and snorkeling) Kekahakai State Park (great for swimming and relaxing) Makalawena Beach (a 1.5 mile hike along hot and exposed lava rock will take you to be best beach on the island. Bring extra water and sun protection.) Beach 49 Black Sands (salt & pepper sands) Beach 69 (one of the few beaches with adequate shade and good swimming) Favorite Restaurants & cafes in Kona (in no particular order): Kona Brewery, Ola Brewery, Willies Fried Chicken, Shakas Tacos, Sakura, Umekes, Pau Hana Poke, Broke Da Mouth, Teshimas, Loko Wraps, Roasted Toasted Cafe, OG Thai, RC Kona, Fosters Kitchen, Kona Bars (in no particular order): Kona Brewery, Ola Brewery, Dolphin Spit, Da Shark Shack, Aloha Vibes, Willies Hot Chicken, Kona Inn (great happy hour), On The Rocks, Humpys Ale House If you are exploring or staying outside of Kona during your stay, please let us know so we can give you some other recommendations!
