One of the largest art museums in the United States, the RISD Art Museum is an affiliate of the Rhode Island School of Design and home to a wide variety of sculptures, paintings, textiles, and multimedia designs dating from ancient times to the present. The RISD Museum is located in Providence RI and is an absolute must do for art lovers new to the area. General admission is $17 (can be reserved online) but the museum offers free admission after 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays.
