Sam and Allie met at a Benedictine spirituality group at Church of the Incarnation. After a few months of parking lot conversations, Sam and Allie ran into each other at Kidd Springs Park and went on a long walk. Once Sam made sure Allie got home safely, he asked her if she'd like to go on a date sometime, and she gave him an enthusiastic yes. Later that week, they met at Wild Detective for a round of drinks that turned into dinner and late-night conversation.

On March 21st, Sam took Allie around town to special places from their relationship. Sam started with the old Benedictine meeting room at Church of the Incarnation where he "found" an envelope addressed to Allie. Inside was an original sonnet about their first meeting. Next, Sam took Allie to Kidd Springs Park, and he produced another envelope from a nearby bush with another sonnet! Their third stop was Wild Detective (for drinks, conversation, and another sonnet). For the last stop, Sam took Allie back to her house. In the time they'd been gone, the backyard had been transformed with hundreds of candles and flowers. Sam read Allie the final sonnet under the fragrant wisteria before proposing. After she said yes, Sam had another surprise waiting. Their friends, all of whom had helped Sam in his plotting and decorated the backyard setup that evening, joined them in the backyard with champagne to kick off the celebration!
