Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
We went here on one of my early visits to DC. There is sloth the size of an elephant and tons of great dinosaur fossils. This also places you on the Mall in proximity to tons of great monuments and museums!
United States National Arboretum
The Arboretum’s features gardens and exhibits, including the popular National Bonsai & Penjing Museum. A source of long-term botanical and conservation of research, this gorgeous, 446-acre property makes for an inspiring and visually captivating visit at any time of the year. Admission to the Arboretum and the museum is free of charge.
Mosaic District
Mosaic is an urban shopping center in the heart of Northern Virginia featuring national retailers, gourmet dining, and a movie theater. It also happens to be five minutes from where we live! Go for the shopping and great restaurants and end your trip with gelato at Dolcezza! Their dark chocolate is one of our faves!
Stone Tower Winery
Virginia is full of great wineries! We love Stone Tower, but there are tons to choose from if you'd like to sip and savor an extra day in Northern Virginia!
Shenandoah National Park
This is where we took our engagement photos! The Skyline drive is breathtaking if you're interested in a scenic drive or you can take advantage of the hiking and nearby river kayaking. We love Downriver Canoe Company!
Great Falls
Great Falls is a series of rapids and waterfalls on the Potomac River, 14 miles upstream from Washington, D.C. We went here on a date and it's really beautiful!
