FAQs

The Wedding Website of Anna Squires and Sam Nilsson
Question

How do I get to the Nilsson's house?

Answer

Digital directions: Type 825 Ute Pass Road into your GPS. You'll know you're there when you see the black iron gate with the train silhouette. Park in the guest parking lot to the left. Analog directions: From downtown Durango, head northeast up Florida Road until you hit Mile 4. Turn right into Ute Pass Ranch—The Legends (not Ute Pass West). Drive straight up the hill, continuing straight when the paved road turns into dirt. Take the gentle right onto the road with the black “Private Drive” sign. In the distance, you’ll see two yellow and brown train depot-style houses. Head towards them. Take the final curve and head through the black iron gate with the train silhouette. Park in the guest parking lot to the left.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

This is a celebration, so wear your Western best! Cowboy boots, bolos, vests, and cowboy hats are encouraged. Not sure what to wear? Sundresses, slacks, and light suit jackets will work just fine. Please make sure to wear sensible shoes. Boots are great—please avoid thin heels. Please remember to be sun-smart. Sunscreen and hats will help keep the strong Durango sun off.

Question

What about parking?

Answer

There is parking for about 30 cars on the Nilsson property. Drive through the black iron gate and head left into the Train and Guest parking. You can park all the way back to the chain across the road. Carpooling is encouraged, if possible.

Question

What's all this about a train?

Answer

Phillip Nilsson has spent 35 years building miles of 7.5 inch gauge railroad tracks, train cars, overpasses, tunnels, crossings, and train stations that criss-cross the 14 acres of Nilsson property. And yes, you can ride it! We'll be offering ~15-minute train rides all afternoon. Once everyone has had a chance to ride, you can take a longer trip around the whole property.

Question

How can I be sun-, fire-, and altitude-safe?

Answer

The Nilsson family home is about 7,500 feet above sea level, so the sun is stronger and the air is thinner than you're probably used to. While you're in Colorado, please hydrate more than you think you need to. This can mean 3–4 liters of water a day. Please remember that 1 alcoholic drink at altitude can feel the same as 2 alcoholic drinks at sea level. We will provide extra sunscreen and parasols, but you are encouraged to bring your own and wear a hat to keep the sun off. Finally, this is wildfire country, so please be extremely careful not to bring anything that burns onto the property.

Question

Do you have a registry?

Answer

Yes! If you would like to contribute to our honeymoon fund or buy us a gift, please see the Registry page.
