Julie and Sam met in January 2015 at Chapman University through The Players' Society production of 'The Room'. Julie joined last minute as a member of the crew - she had the very important job of holding the door open for the actors. Sam played 'Mike', a character who makes out with a girl in every single one of his scenes. So, the very first time Julie laid eyes on Sam, he was kissing another girl, for "art." Eventually, they formed a friendship, and realized that two of their friends had crushes on each other. So on 4/20/16 (blaze it), while the four of them were hanging out at Sam's house, Sam and Julie decided to step into another room, to give their friends some alone time. The mission was a failure that night. But Sam and Julie shared a first kiss, and the rest is history. They officially became a couple on 5/7/16. In 2017, they graduated from Chapman University and moved up to LA. They both worked long hours as production assistants, but spent many evenings at each other's apartments, binge watching their favorite TV shows. After a year in LA, Julie made the decision to move to New York for a year. Sam took Julie's place with her previous roommates, which included bridesmaids Kelsi, Matt, and Jalen. A year of long-distance didn't shake their relationship. In 2019, Julie moved back to LA, and into Sam's room. It was a tiny box of a room - it barely fit the queen-sized bed, and definitely didn't have room for both of their belongings. 6 roommates in a 4 bedroom apartment, but everyone was constantly working, and it saved a ton of money. No big deal...until 2020 and the pandemic hit. This was the ultimate relationship test. It was very cramped, of course, but they were just so happy to be together again, and it was nice to be trapped with what felt like a whole family. However, in 2021, it was time for everyone to go their separate ways, and Sam and Julie moved into their own apartment. Things couldn't be better, as their lives and careers continued, and they cared for their feline son, Cat Stevens. One of Julie's pastimes is looking for the best, most affordable flights that don't sacrifice comfort/convenience. And in mid-2022, she found the holy grail of trips to Italy, so she booked it, and the vacation of a lifetime was set for September of 2023. Little did Julie know that this would set up the perfect opportunity for something Sam had been plotting for some time. In February of 2023, Sam pulled the trigger of buying a ring (that Julie had not so subtly hinted was of interest to her). And after some rigamarole with FedEx, the ring lived at Danny Kane's apartment in a box labeled "DO NOT THROW AWAY (heart)" for months. Until... ...September 2023, they travelled to Italy - Julie's dream trip. (thank you, credit card travel points!) After wonderful stops in Rome and Florence, they made their way to the beautiful coast of Cinque Terre, where a boat picked them up for a sea-based tour of the five cities that make up Cinque Terre. Sam arranged with the boat team that he'd ask a certain question when they arrived in the town of Riomaggiore around sunset. Imagine his surprise when five minutes into the tour (hours before sunset), he hears, "And now we're pulling into Riomaggiore." But when the moment came, Sam pulled himself together, and no one cared what time it was or where the sun was positioned. Because Sam asked, and Julie said "Yes." They were engaged! Since then, they've continued to work hard, enjoy life, and - most importantly - love each other.
