Travel

We will be getting married just outside of Dom's hometown of York, in the North of England. See below for some guidance on where to stay and how to get to York, but Dom is happy to help with any and all questions around travel logistics!

Hotel

Accommodation

CENTRAL YORK HOTELS Our recommendation would be to stay in the centre of York, where there is a wide variety of hotel options and things to do - all within a short walk of each other. We will be arranging buses to take guests to and from the ceremony, with collection close to the main train station, just outside Memorial Gardens (https://maps.app.goo.gl/7TE3FLPQ3MX25atAA). For those wanting to minimize their travel time, we would therefore recommend hotels in this area. The below hotels are all close to the coach pick up point, the train station and the centre of town: - The Grand (https://www.thegrandyork.co.uk/), The Principal (https://theprincipalyork.com/) or Malmaison (https://www.malmaison.com/locations/york/) are great for those looking for higher end options - Alternatively the Hampton by Hilton or the Radisson are good options for those looking to spend a bit less The above are just a few examples, there are a lot of other hotel and B&B options in the city centre, within 15 minutes walk of the station and the coach pickup point. HOTELS NEAR THE VENUE For those wanting to stay closer to the venue, we would recommend the Parsonage Hotel & Spa (https://www.parsonagehotel.co.uk/). This is the closest hotel to the venue, but we will not be running a coach to this hotel, so this may only make sense for guests wanting to make their own travel arrangements to and from the venue. AIRBNB / VRBO For groups wanting to stay together, there are some Airbnb options both in York and closer to the venue, which may also be worth considering.

Flight

London Airports

While there are a lot of flight options, for those coming from the US it likely makes the most sense to fly into London Heathrow, and then get the train or drive up to York. There are direct flights from both Chicago and Cincinnati to London. There are alternative airport options slightly closer to York (such as Manchester Airport) but non-stop flights may not be available.

Train

London Airports > London Kings Cross

There are a range of travel options to get from the airport to the train station: The most straightforward option is a taxi or uber which should take 45 - 90 minutes (travel time will depend heavily on traffic!). But this will likely cost ~£50-75. Alternatively you can take the tube or a combination of the Heathrow Express and the tube. Google Maps is your friend as the best route may vary but this should take 45-60 minutes and will cost closer to ~£15-25 (per person). For those with more time we would recommend spending some time in London at the start or end of your trip. There is so much to see and it will help break up the journey!

Train

London Kings Cross > York

Update: There now appear to be engineering works happening on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October, on the London to York train line. This means there are less direct trains, and they are taking slightly longer (closer to 3 hours rather than 2 hours). There are still trains available, but we would recommend booking ahead to secure a seat on a train, especially if you are planning on travelling up on Saturday morning. For those of you planning on travelling by train from York to London for flights on Sunday you should also review the train schedule carefully as this may be an issue. Dom is available to help with questions! ------------------------------ There is a direct train from London Kings Cross to York station, which takes around 2 hours and whisks you through England's green and pleasant lands... You can pre-book tickets on the LNER website (https://www.lner.co.uk) for a specific train time, but if you are travelling directly from the airport to York you may want to buy a ticket at the station as it can be tricky to know exactly what time you will arrive.

Travel Note

UK Roadtrip

You can also rent a car and drive from London to York, but be aware that this may take a bit longer than public transport (4-5 hours). You also may need to "drive stick" and you will need to drive on the other side of the road! A car is not necessary to get around London and York, but for those wanting to explore more of the country it may be the best bet!
