How We Met

It goes down in the DM 2015

We’d seen each other in passing at a popular night club, but our first official introduction didn’t take place until years later via social media. Thank you Instagram! The first message expressed his desire to connect and intrigued, I responded, “Aww him wanna be friends.” A few DMs and years later, we are still writing this beautiful love story.

The Proposal

2-14-2020

Valentine’s Day 2020 was a typical work day for us. I’d decided that this year would be spent celebrating him, something atypical traditionally for this holiday. I was so excited to present his gift to him, I KNEW there’d be no way he could top it. However, he’d informed me he would be working late, delaying our festivities. My parents, nieces and nephews came over for a BBQ as we awaited his return. Chris finally arrived home around 8:00 p.m. and I eagerly handed him his masterpiece, a “five senses gift”.  It consisted of Versace cologne, earbuds, craft bourbon beers, a grooming kit and his favorite family portrait of us – items that appeal to the basic senses of the human body. Crown me the Queen of gift giving, bow at my throne! He gives me what I thought were all my gifts: wine, chocolate, heartfelt card and every girl’s favorite – money. Satiated, I finish preparing dinner.  I walked around the corner to retrieve an item from the pantry and when I returned, Chris was down on one knee, overwhelmed with emotion. In his outstretched hand was a breathtakingly gorgeous ring. Cue ugly crying face. My mom says, "Baby, why you crying?" Naturally, we’d discussed marriage before, but I was completely surprised. Furthermore, Valentine’s Day? Chris? NOT his style at all, or so I thought. Honored, I accepted his proposal, signaling the beginning of the next chapter in our story.
