We have reserved rooms starting Thursday, August 4th through Sunday, August 7th (checkout) at both hotels in CT and hotels in NJ for the two event locations. Please book at your convenience.
For those traveling form out of town or with no access to a car, we have reserved a shuttle bus service to transport guests from Rockleigh, NJ (near reserved hotels) and Midtown Manhattan to our Gaye Holud event. The shuttle bus will travel the same route back following our Gaye Holud event. Please email saiyaraandadeed@gmail.com if you are interested in using this service or for any questions. For all other guests, the most recommended travel is by car. Otherwise, if traveling from new york city by train, please use Metro-North Railroad from Grand Central to Bridgeport Station, and use take a 15 min taxi/uber from Bridgeport station to the venue. If traveling via Amtrak, the closest station is also Bridgeport Amtrak Station.
Best route for all guests (staying in NJ/NY/CT) is to take uber and/or car. Please check google maps for real-time directions as there may be unexpected traffic. For NYC guests, additional option to take NJ Transit from Penn Station to Pearl River station, and uber from there.
For many of you, this will be your first Gaye Holud, and we are so excited to share this day with you! Gaye Holud, which translates to (turmeric on the body), is a traditional Bengali event that usually takes place the day before the wedding. In Bengali culture, turmeric is considered to have cleansing and beautifying properties; guests will have the opportunity to put turmeric paste on Saiyara and Adeed and feed them a sweet or snack to send well wishes for their marriage. This is the more informal day filled with colorful outfits, sweets, and dance performances.
For the Gaye Holud, traditional outfits are definitely encouraged, but any colorful or festive wear is welcome (semi-formal festive attire)!! For women, there are many types of outfits you can wear, such as a sari (Saiyara will be wearing a sari), salwaar kameez, and lehenga. For men, a typical traditional outfit is a punjabi kurta (Adeed will also be wearing one). However, for women a summer dress is totally fine to wear, as well as nice pants and a button down for men. Don't hesitate to reach out to Saiyara or Adeed at saiyaraandadeed@gmail.com if you have any more specific questions on what to wear.
If you are in the NY/NJ area, the two hot spots are Edison, NJ and Jackson Heights (Queens), NY. For ladies, we also recommend some online options: Keep in mind that a few of these are based in India so shipping can take around two weeks. Aza has gorgeous designs for men and women, but they are also based in India so shipping times can take longer than usual. Holi Chic by Megha is based in NYC and has a lot of fusion designs. Kynah is based in Los Angeles, and carry a lot of trendy clothing/jewelry options that have a more traditional look. Additionally, Etsy and Amazon also have some options for traditional clothing! Websites: www.houseofindya.com, www.azafashions.com www.shopkynah.com www.holichicbymegha.com www.kalkifasion.com www.lashkaraa.com www.perniaspopupshop.com www.etsy.com www.amazon.com ***Ladies, since traditional saris can be tricky to put on/wear, we recommend trying the following styles: lehenga/lehenga choli; anarkali, and/or salwar kameez.***
The dress code is formal/black tie optional; traditional South Asian formal attire is welcome as well
There will be various food and drink stations at the cocktail hour, and the venue will be asking for each guests's entree choice (there will be 3 options) during the wedding reception. All food served will be Halal. The venue will have vegan/vegetarian options for all those that request this; if you have further allergy or dietary restrictions please email saiyaraandadeed@gmail.com with details/questions.
