They were at USC's Century Apartments pool for the first summer training session for their graduate assistantship. Everyone stood around in a circle introducing themselves and sharing a highlight from the summer. Sally shared something about graduating from UCSB and celebrating that achievement with family, and Pablo talked about how much P90X he did that summer (sounds about right). This is not when their love story began, but it is when they first met.

Pablo graduated and left USC in May 2014. Sally graduated in May 2015 and stayed full-time at USC. So over two years after they first met, after they had both graduated with their Master of Education from USC, they reconnected at a friend's 4th of July party. A few days later, Pablo asked Sally out on their first date (Griffith Park hike and breakfast at Jacks N Joes). A few months later, they made their relationship official.

Depends on who you ask, but Sally had mentioned to Pablo that she would not like to be 30 and un-engaged (after 6 years of dating). Pablo says this was a deadline, and Sally says this was a request/preference. Regardless, Sally turned 30 on September 11, 2021 while they were in Kauai with Sally's parents. Although Pablo had planned for the ring to arrive in time for their trip, unfortunately due to shipment delays, the ring arrived in Oxnard just moments prior to their flight's departure from LAX to Kauai. Sally's dad Jamal and Pablo quickly brainstormed a new idea. Jamal asked if Sally and Pablo would join her parents and brother for a dinner in Malibu the Wednesday they would return from Kauai. This would be a birthday dinner celebration for both Sally and her brother Ali (who both share birthdays in September). Sally agreed, and Pablo suggested they take family photos at the beach before dinner, knowing that Sally used family photos for a Mother's Day calendar every year. Sally & Pablo made their way to Malibu after work on September 15, 2021. When they were on their way there, Ali texted to share that they were running late, and he suggested Sally & Pablo begin looking for good photo spots until they got there. Sally & Pablo arrived at El Pescador State Beach and began to find the best photo spot with Pablo's GoPro. After the first "test" photo, Pablo got down on one knee and proposed, and Sally said yes! The birthday dinner did still happen that night at Dukes!
