Art Fair: Brighton's Summer Art Fair is August 23-25 in Downtown Brighton. Food & Entertainment: There a ton of Restaurants and Breweries in Brighton. I would recommend Stillwater (and the park path behind it), Sushi Zen, and all of the restaurants off Main St.
I love Detroit, but I won't speak for myself! USA Today voted the following below! #1 Best Public Space - Detroit's Campus Martius #1 Best Art Museum - Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Other fun activities in Detroit: Museums: Motown Museum; Henry Ford Museum Entertainment: Greektown, Fox Theatre, Detroit Opera House, Little Cesar's Arena Parks: Belle Isle Park; Detroit River Walk
If you are looking for a short day trip, Ann Arbor is packed with great art, food, and is home to the University of Michigan! This medium sized city is about 15 minutes outside of Brighton and I'd recommend checking out the historic UoM Campus, Zingerman's Deli, and other dynamic restaurants.
Great park to get outside! Full of hiking trails, picnic areas, and small lake beaches to sunbathe or go for a dip! Requires a state park entrance fee. Kensington Park is another great area for a picnic, bike ride, or scenic walk.
If this is your first time in Michigan, taking a day trip to Lake Michigan is absolutely worth your time. The lush sand beaches, dunes, and crystal clear water is really mind blowing for those that haven't seen a great lake before. A few cute towns off of the water are below, about 2-3 hours away from venue: - Saugatuck (great art scene) - Grand Haven (fun beach town) - Holland (Old Dutch town) - Traverse City (Furthest away, but worth 2 days by itself)
If you plan to explore MI, Mackinac Island should be at the top of your list. About 4hrs away from the venue, this quaint island allows no cars, and is filled with fudge shops, bike paths, and charm. It definitely worth a day trip staying at a Bed and Breakfast on the island or Hotel in Mackinac City.
Traverse City is about 4 hours away from the Venue, but is a great place to stay if you plan on exploring the state! It has beautiful scenery, restaurants, and culture. If you take a couple days to go to Traverse City, make a day trip to the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Highly recommend the Pierce Stocking Driving Circle to check out a 400ft sand dune and gorgeous scenery!
