The Sangeet is a vibrant and colorful celebration traditionally held days before the wedding. Originating from Indian and Pakistani wedding traditions, the word "Sangeet" literally means music. This event is all about bringing both families together to sing, dance, and share joyous moments, setting the tone for the wedding festivities. Historically, the Sangeet was an intimate gathering where women would sing traditional songs and dance, but it has evolved into a lively, inclusive celebration for all friends and family members. Our Sangeet will take place at the Harborview Loft- a stunning waterfront location with 360 views of San Diego's skyline. We will have dinner, dances, and mehndi stations available for our guests!
A Baraat is a traditional Indian wedding procession where the groom makes his way to the wedding venue, surrounded by family and friends. This joyous parade is filled with lively music, dancing, and laughter, often with the groom riding a decorated horse or other unique forms of transportation. The Baraat is a festive way to celebrate the groom’s journey to his marriage, symbolizing the excitement and blessings that accompany him as he starts this new chapter in life. It's a moment of shared happiness and anticipation, where both families come together to celebrate the union. Our Baraat will take begin right next to the ceremony site and will take place for about 20-30 minutes. The baraat concludes at the mandap, or the wedding stage, when the groom's side is met by the bride's family in a small welcoming ceremony called a "milni." From there, the wedding ceremony will officially begin. All are welcome and encouraged to join the baraat- it's one of the most fun parts!!
If you would like to wear Indian or Indo-Western outfits on either or both the Sangeet and Wedding Day, we share below a few websites that we have either personally shopped from or have heard good things about. Indian Store Websites: https://www.lashkaraa.com https://www.perniaspopupshop.com/ https://shopkynah.com/ https://www.azafashions.com/ https://www.kalkifashion.com Websites you have probably heard of: - Etsy: We've heard good things but that it really depends on the seller so please do your due diligence on the sellers. - Amazon: Amazon has great options especially for dupattas for women. So, one creative thing the ladies could do is take an existing maxi dress you already have, and just buy an indian dupatta from amazon and DIY your own Indo-western outfit. - Asos.com: Asos has Indian and Indo-Western outfits though we have not personally ever ordered from them - Local Stores: There are Indian clothing stores and boutiques all over the Bay Area, and in other cities kind of all over. Feel free to do a google or yelp review search and check those out too! If you have any questions about outfits, or want to run ideas by us, please do not hesitate to text or email us- we are happy to help!
Sangeet: fun, colorful, vibrant - no color is off limits! Semi-formal Indian or Western attire Wedding Day: Formal Cocktail Indian or Western Attire Please try to avoid wearing all red or all white if possible on this day.
No! We understand folks may want to stay at other hotels or get their own Airbnb in bigger groups. Please feel free to do whatever makes the most sense for you and your families. We do highly recommend staying at the Hilton for convenience. Not only is it a beautiful resort, but it is also where the wedding ceremony and reception will take place. Additionally, busses to the Sangeet will transport guests to/from the hotel. We will also have a hospitality room at the hotel on both days for guests to mingle and hang out.
We love your little ones and while they are welcome at the Sangeet and reception, the wedding ceremony itself will be an adults-only event (ages 7+). If you have specific concerns, please reach out to us, and we'll do our best to work something out. Thank you for understanding!
