What airport should we fly into?

What airline should we fly?

Answer

We recommend Hawaiian Airlines for comfort, deals, and direct flights to either ITO or KOA. There is a direct flight from Austin TX to Hilo (ITO) a few times a week. Additionally signing up for the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Master Card can gain you miles applied for travel. Southwest can also get you to Hilo (ITO) or Kona (KOA) with a few connecting flights and has a reward program.

Where are we staying? And when do we need to book a room?

The Volcano House Lodge 1 Crater Rim Drive, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, HI 96718 Rooms are pre-selected and have been booked with a 15% discount code. More information individually to follow via Ryan or Holly. If you have a room preference (King or Double Queen) or would like to share a room with someone please let Ryan or Holly know. Check in / Check out The check-in time is 3:00 pm. Check-out time is no later than 12:00 pm (noon). The Volcano House front desk operates 24 hours a day.

When do we need to pay for our hotel room?

Answer

Before 11/01 hotel room payments for the Volcano House Lodge need to be made to Holly or Ryan in full.

Should we get a rental car?

Answer

We highly recommend that each party get a rental car for traveling around the island and National Park. The Big Island is "big" so having a car to get around is essential. If you want to book a large rental vehicle and share with someone get in touch with Holly to set that up.

Do we need to pay entrance fee's for the National Park?

Answer

Yes! The National Park is $30 per vehicle to access the park. The permit is good for 7 days and if you have a National Park pass please bring it with you.

Do we need to pay for our meal at the Brunch?

Answer

The brunch will be taken care of by the Bride and Groom. Alcohol sales will be covered individually.

Will there be alcohol at the Brunch

Answer

Alcohol will not be included with brunch but can be added to a personal tab at the bar.

How long does it take to get to the location of the wedding ceremony from the lodge?

Answer

The drive down to the End of Craters Road is about 30-45 minutes so please leave the lodge well in advance and we recommend car-pooling for the ceremony. Then there is about a 0.5 mile hike to the palm tree grove that will take you about 15 minutes.

What is the weather like on the Big Island?

Answer

The Hilo side of the island is the wet side of the island so make sure to pack a light rain jacket. The Volcano does get cooler at night since we are higher in elevation so pack accordingly. Hilo May Avg Temps: 83 / 70°F

Should I bring snorkel gear with me or purchase on the island?

Answer

This is honestly up to you. If you have gear you know and trust I would say save some money and pack your gear. If not, there is plenty of shops on the island to get you a basic snorkel set up.

Travel gear recommendations...

Some items that we never go to Hawaii without are ultralight towels, reusable water bottles, a soft cooler, sunscreen, sandals/adventure sandals, sunglasses, wet-bag, re-usable utensils and straws, first-aid kit, car chargers, and hiking boots! That's all I can think of for now :)

What airport should we fly home from?

Answer

This will be dependent on how you would like to do the trip. If you are planning on returning home on Monday May 5th flying out and returning your rental car at the Hilo airport (ITO) would be best. If you are planning on staying at the Airbnb until Wednesday May 7th on the Kona side of the island flying out of the Kona airport (KOA) and returning your rental vehicle there would be best. Make sure to consider these things when planning your trip and reservations.
