Arrival into Anguilla (British): Once you have arrived on Anguilla, you will complete one more transfer through customs and fill out a form explaining your visit. Above is a sample -
Leave any jeans, sweatshirts, etc at home, this is the Caribbean people! Bring lots of swim suits and light breathable clothing. Bring sandals as we will be on the beach every day. If you are feeling adventurous and wanted to hike or go explore the rocky shores, bring some hiking sandals to protect your feet from sharp coral. Bring cover ups and light clothes to wear to the beach - the island is British and there is still a conservative culture at beachside establishments. (All guests must be wearing cover-ups or shirts when dining and sitting in restaurants, etc.) Bring any masks, snorkels, GoPros, if you are interested in snorkeling. There will be equipment for rent on the island and at most resorts, but bring them along if you have your own supplies. Bring any travel size portions of toiletries. There are supermarkets on the island, but there may not be all brands available that we have here in the United States. Also, don't forget your wedding outfits!
Anguilla is known for the fine dining and high end food available - there are Italian, French, American, and traditional Caribbean fairs available. At most restaurants ribs, chicken, and fish (whole snapper) will be offered. Is it also to see hamburger/cheese burger, and pizza at the beach bars. For menus of most restaurants on island, see here: http://menus.ai/
Since hurricane Irma and Maria, there has been lots of activity on island! The entire island has had complete power restored to homes and businesses. The Anguilla AXA airport was open and more flights have been scheduled - therefore better access to Anguilla than we had previously! See the Photos tab for complete list of restaurants, as well as hotels. There are charts showing status of open, or tentative opening dates!
See Photos tab for opening status and tentative opening dates for hotels. This is the most current information, and I will keep these lists updated. St Martin/Maarten airport (SXM) is now open and is receiving regular flights. Although, (if you plan to travel through SXM, see Photos tab for current ferry schedules). The Anguilla AXA airport is open, and receiving regular flights as well! - This is a great option as we can skip the air/land/boat track through St Martin! Chartered flights are already operating through Seabourne and Anguilla Air Services. American Airlines, Delta, and Jet Blue are offering flights from LAX (or other starting points ;) ) directly through to AXA via Seabourne. If you plan to book using fly miles through any of these carriers, the option of AXA may not appear as an option due to the last leg being supported by Seabourne. I suggest then to book with miles through to Puerto Rico (SJU) and book the last leg separately through Seabourne.
Book your travel and come on our wedding adventure! The island's main source of income is tourism, so your travel and hotel bookings will be helping! Additionally, there are many ways you can help if you wish - there are many charities which are all in need. If you connect with the religious community, there are many churches of various denominations which all suffered major structural damage. Or, do furry friends tug on your heartstrings? The AARF (Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation) always is asking for travelers to bring materials from the US, so if you have a crevice of space in your luggage, maybe you can fill it? Or, if you want a furry companion on your return trip, many AARF puppies are looking for a hitch-hike to bring them to the US to pre-arranged adoptive families. If you feel compelled to spend some time during your trip to aid in the relief, there will be rebuild efforts through 2017-2018. Please contact Elise if you are interested in any topics above.
The goal is to have everyone in shades of white to tan. Think of something light and breathable, since it is going to be hot and humid. For men, possibly linen shorts and a short sleeve button up or polo shirt. For women, a flowy dress, maxi skirt with top, linen pants, etc. Bring comfortable shoes as we will be traveling to the beach, and prepare to kick off your shoes and have toes in the sand during ceremony and reception!
Yes, there are Zika warnings for travel to ALL Caribbean islands. See below link for information for all health concerns when visiting Anguilla: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/anguilla
The ferry ride is approximately 20 minutes on the water. The public ferry from the French side (Marigot) has occupancy of ~50 people and are enclosed ferry boats. Depending on the weather, the sea can get rough - I would suggest Dramamine if you tend to become motion sick.
