Our story begins on a brisk night, on the eve of Valentine’s Day 2016 in Las Cruces, NM at a country bar called “Whiskey Dicks.” We were both there separately and having a good time when the bar’s “hip-hop” hour began. Various songs played while we remained unaware of each other, that is, until, “Get Low” by Lil Jon came on overhead. Both of us were familiar with the song, but the edited version playing in the nightclub was not the version we were expecting. Just as Angelina was thinking to herself, she overheard someone voice her thoughts behind her, “What!?! That’s not how the song goes.” At that moment she turned around to see Ryan with his friends and interjected, “I know right!?! That’s what I’m saying!” A little later in the evening Ryan asked Angelina to dance and discovered they had a lot in common. Both outgoing with an appreciation for dancing and country music, and both academic with a background in nursing and genetics. Having really hit it off, we exchanged numbers and met up a few times, but with everything going on in our lives the timing wasn’t right to enter into a new relationship and we parted ways. Fast forward 7 months later. Still having strong feelings for each other and with things having quieted in our lives, we met up for coffee and discussed pursuing a relationship. All the cards were laid on the table and we had a serious discussion about what we wanted for ourselves in the future. Everything aligned so we gave it a shot and now here we are! Ryan proposed during dinner at St. Clair Winery after singing/playing our song on guitar. We had a small, private ceremony officiated by family before we moved to Colorado, but we are now celebrating our marriage in the Church and looking forward to sharing it with all of our friends and loved ones.
