We met in Detroit in 2013 while corps members in Teach for America. We became fast friends, mostly because I wanted to keep up running as a pseudo-adult and Ryan's dog, Kimbal, LOVED to R-U-N. Ryan's house was me and my roommate's hang out spot that first year. Whether we were lesson planning, grading, or unwinding on the weekend, you could probably find us hanging out with Ryan and his roommates. In spring of 2014, I was extremely homesick so Ryan and two friends signed up for a whirlwind weekend trip to NC . On our drive home, Ryan quoted a line from John Green's 'The Fault in Our Stars': "I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once." I was shocked. Then I asked him to be my boyfriend. Our love grew as we continued teaching, traveling, and building a life together in a new city with the help of friends and family. We are so excited to celebrate our marriage with those we love, who have provided us with wisdom and well-wishes, laughs and late nights, strength and support, across these past seven years and three states. We are even more excited that we get to celebrate our love with you all in the city that we love so dearly! From late nights out in Greektown and snow day work parties, to board game nights and our engagement celebration at Belle Isle, Detroit has made us who we are both individually and together. It is fitting that our marriage will start back where it all began: in the heart of the Motor City.
