From Roy's perspective: I was walking with Carlos to go grab our daily espresso when Ruth was coming in the other direction. We had kind of met before, but this was the first time that we were around each other for more than 15 seconds and she barely acknowledged me! There she is going on and on with Carlos about work stuff and I'm apparently invisible. It was obvious she was just intimidated so I decided I should send her a Facebook message to break the ice. All kidding aside, I was interested in Ruth from the moment I saw her. We had the good fortune of both being selected to attend a work trip to Spain and we fell in love in Madrid. On January 20th, 2016 I asked Ruth to be my girlfriend and I already knew at the time that one day I would marry her.

From Ruth's perspective: Roy was heading out to San Diego for an important meeting. He suggested we make a weekend out of it and split it between San Diego and Laguna Beach, knowing he had been preparing and looking toward the meeting, I quickly agreed. California has always been a special place for us, it's where he met most of my family for the first time and we had traveled to the state for work/weddings numerous times. Once we landed in San Diego, he rented a convertible which was such a fun way to kick off our trip especially when you consider California's amazing weather. We headed straight towards Laguna and had an early night after traveling all day. The following day, he had an early day planned for us - starting with a relaxing and perfect spa and pool day at the Montage. Highly recommend! Before dinner, we headed down to the beach with a bottle of champagne to watch the sunset - we began talking about life, our relationship, etc., and as the sun was setting he got down on one knee and popped the question. Once I realized it was real life, I quickly said YES! <3
