Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls

Livingstone, Southern Province, Zambia
, +260 95 5711838

Victoria falls is part of the World Heritage Site. THIS LEGENDARY WATERFALL is among the biggest, and most awe-inspiring, on the planet. As the mighty Zambezi River crashes over a basalt rock ledge and drops 354 feet or 108 metres down into a powerful whirlpool, it forms the largest sheet of falling water on the planet: the Victoria Falls. Traditionally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya (which, aptly, means ‘The Smoke that Thunders’), the falling water’s impressive roar can sometimes be heard from 25 miles or 40 kilometres away.

The Lower Zambezi valley is a huge rift in the earth's crust, through which a mighty river flows. There are national parks on both sides of the river – Mana Pools National Park on the Zimbabwean bank, and the Lower Zambezi National Park on the Zambian side. The landscape is beautiful: tall leadwoods, ebonies, acacias and figs stand on a carpet of rich grassland. But the main attraction is the area's game, which congregates near the river during the dry season.
