Sandy Island - Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire

A Very Campy Wedding

We're so excited to be celebrating with the people we love in a place that holds a special place in our hearts. Sandy Island is a family camp on Lake Winnipesaukee that's been run by the Boston YMCA for upwards of a century. The Koffs have been a dedicated "Week 8" family every summer for over 35 years, and now after more than a decade together, Russ is also becoming well versed in the lore and traditions of Sandy Island. Even if you've never tie-dyed anything in your life or wouldn't be caught dead line-dancing to Cotton Eyed Joe, the island is a magical place and we can't think of a better setting to get hitched and celebrate with everyone. And when we say "everyone" that means kids are welcome too. We also realize that camp life may not be your thing, so whether you stay in one of the cabins on the island, in a hotel on the mainland, or just come for the day, we can't wait to share this special place with you all. After continuing below, be sure to also check the Schedule, Travel and Photo sections above. And don't forget to RSVP using the link in the same menu!

Where It All Began

We met in Paradise...

The two of us have come a long way since that November night when we met in Cambridge, sitting a couple stools away from each other at the Paradise bar. Dan was kicking off his career in design, Russ had just started grad school, and neither of us had a long term relationship on their mind. But after a couple hours of conversation, Russ found himself in a smitten haze and missed the last train, so Dan offered him a ride home. Eleven years later, we've both survived grad school, made a home, lived through Covid lockdown (and still love each other), and grown in ways neither of us could have imagined. Now we want to celebrate the life we've built together with the people who mean the most to us. Let's party!

What to Expect at Sandy Island

First and foremost, Sandy Island is...an island. So yes, you need a boat to get there and we will provide them for you at scheduled times throughout the weekend. Check the "Travel" section for more details. The island itself is 66 acres of mostly wooded land with a beautiful lodge and dining hall, 43 cabins of varying sizes, a waterfront stocked with canoes and kayaks, bocce courts, baseball field, shuffleboard, and a frisbee golf course that winds through the woods. You may even run into some of the island's friendly deer while you're exploring. You can either join us on the Island for one or two nights, stay at one of the hotels/B&Bs in nearby Meredith, which is a 20 minute drive to the dock, or find your own accommodations via Airbnb. We'd love to have lots of people stay on the island, but we understand that "rustic" is not everyone’s cup of tea. How rustic, you ask? Check out the descriptions in the travel section. You can also visit Sandy Island's website for their summer programs here: https://bostonycamps.org/sandy-island-family-camp/about-camp-sandy-island/

Covid Precautions

Everyone's health is going to be our priority, so you can be sure we will be following whatever CDC recommendations are in place at the time of the event. We will be monitoring the situation as the pandemic evolves. However, we do plan to require that all eligible people be vaccinated if they attend. Thank you!
