We met in high school when Logan moved to Daphne with his family. Friday nights were always about going to the DHS football games, so Logan made his first appearance at ours for the first game of the season. My friends and I were also at the game, and had decided to paint ourselves to show team spirit. When I saw Logan walking across the field in front of the concession stand, I decided to trip him (in a flirtatious way, of course), and stuck my foot out into his path. I had to think of some way to make the new cute guy at school look my way (clever 14 year old Ashley). He laughed and shot me a, "hey," to which I replied, "hey!" and he walked on into the stands with his family. We were friends for years after that, sharing home room with Mrs. Dabney, seats beside each other in 10th grade Chemistry, and even first looks at our new cars upon turning 16. At the end of the school year in 2008, we walked across the stage, one after the other, and a few weeks later both left for college. Auburn for Logan, USA for me. When I decided to move back home in July of 2013, Logan reached out to me and invited me to dinner at California Dreamin' alongside several of our close friends from high school... And the rest is history. We soon went on our first date, and Logan stole my heart. We had always had a spark, but it was all in the right timing to make it into the full flame it is today. We fell in love and now we're getting married and cannot wait to share new memories of our special day with all of you!
After recently making our move to Brunswick, GA, from Richmond, VA, Logan and I were nervous about making the deadline for our friends to come into town for a visit to our new home. I flew back and forth constantly from Boston to ensure every last box was unpacked, while Logan finished up the final touches at night after work. Somehow we pulled it off and our friends, Megan, Stephanie and Jesse all arrived from out of town. Unbeknownst to me, Logan and the girls had been planning a surprise proposal for weeks, to be disguised with an engagement shoot Megan was doing for Steph and Jesse. Megan told me all about her plans for their photo shoot, and we discussed my part in setting up the backdrop for their formal shoot. We made our way out to Jekyll Island, a barrier island off the coast of Georgia, just north of Jacksonville, FL, and set up our props, greenery, and floral pieces, along Driftwood Beach. We were in a time crunch, with a storm blowing in from the South, slowly turning the sky black. After wrapping up the engagement session, Megan directed Logan and I to step into the frame for a few quick pictures. He dropped down on one knee and asked me to spend forever by his side, to which I immediately replied, "Yes! Of course!" Moments later, the bottom fell out of the clouds, as we raced the mile down the beach back to our cars. We got soaking wet and appeared as if we had gone swimming in the ocean instead of having come back from a photo shoot, and all laughed hysterically at how ridiculous we looked. We all traded our rain soaked clothes for some comfy sweats and moved our fancy dinner reservations to a more casual venue. It made for the perfect, intimate setting for us to celebrate with some of our closest friends, and made for one heck of a story! If rain on your engagement day is any indication of a long and happy marriage, we will be set for life!
