Travel Note
On June 7th, the wedding ceremony and the reception will take place in the same location (Villa Fassati Barba) located in Passirano (BS). We suggest you plan to stay in the southern area of Lake Iseo. This part of Italy is called Franciacorta - especially famous for its precious vineyards, wine making tradition, and Lake Iseo itself. Iseo, while a tourist destination, is not as busy or well-equipped as other major Italian tourist destinations (which we think makes it charming). Public transport and taxis are not as available as one might find in Rome or Milan, although it is walkable.
Travel Note
IMPORTANT NOTE: Italy has begun rolling out a visa requirement for tourists that have previously had visa-free tourist entry. Please check your passport issuing country's requirements. It is a policy that has been announced, but when it will be implemented is not completely clear. For many non-EU countries it will be a simple tourist e-Visa that is requested online and immediately approved, but be sure to check this as requirements for tourist entry have or may change in 2025.
Flight
1. Malpensa (MXP) is the largest international airport in the region serving many intercontinental flights. It is located about 1hr from Milan (via train and car), and about 130 km from the Iseo town center (1.5 hr drive, 2+ hr train). 2. Linate (LIN) is an international airport much closer to Milan itself than MXP (Milan city center is easily reachable by bus and metro), but there are typically fewer direct arrival options. It is 90km from the town of Iseo (1 hr drive, 2 hr train). 3. Bergamo (BGY) is an international airport located in the city of Bergamo, yet it's listed as one of the three airports of Milan. It's the closest airport, but it is typically served only by low-cost European carriers. It is around 40km from the town Iseo (45 min drive).
Travel Note
By Car: Our recommended means of travel once you arrive to Italy is by rental car. Driving in Northern Italy will not present a challenge to any experienced driver (contrary to how driving is depicted in movies or shows :) ), the main difference being smaller cars, narrower roads, and many more round-abouts than U.S. drivers are used to, and a valid license from your country can be used in Italy for 90 days. Most cars are manual transmission, so be sure to book your car in advance in case you need an automatic. Iseo is between Lake Garda and Lake Como, and therefore, if you'd like to explore some of the region before or after the ceremony (which we recommend), having a car will give you the most freedom to do so. Rental cars from the airports can cost as low as $15/day. By Train: For those who don't mind travelling by train, the Iseo train station is located in the town center. Visit trenitalia.com to view routes from the various airports to Iseo Station which is reachable via the Italian regional/domestic lines. Typical routes pass through some of the main stations (Milano Centrale, Milano Lambrate, or Brescia, for example) and cost about 30 Euros per person one way from MXP (less if you're coming from LIN or the Milan City Center). By Ride-Hailing and Taxis: Uber is in Italy though it can be more expensive than usual (Uber Black and above). Taxis from the airport are also available. Since the trip from MXP (the farthest airport) to Iseo is a long one, a taxi or Uber will cost 200+ Euros. By Shuttle: If you wish to travel by private car or shuttle, there are options for this as well that can be booked in advance, but the cost is only worthwhile for larger groups, so we recommend coordinating your arrival with other wedding attendees. If you are interested in this option, email us for more information.
Travel Note
Personal Transportation Before/After Wedding: The city center of Iseo is walkable (as are all Italian cities). One can visit shops, restaurants, and bars on foot with ease. There is no public transport system in Iseo (as with the bigger cities like Milan), and therefore, to travel further distances without your own rental car, hailing an Uber or a taxi would be our recommendation, and a quick google search on taxi companies in Iseo will yield several results. If you are staying at a hotel, your concierge can also provide you with help on this. This town, though smaller and more remote than major cities, hosts foreign, English-speaking tourists during the summer and so the language barrier with a taxi-driver should not present an overwhelming issue. An Uber Black would likely cost around 20 Euros for a 10-15 minute drive in and around Iseo. Wedding Events Transportation: We will coordinate shuttles for the wedding. We will collect details from our guests on their accommodations and provide details on pickups as the event nears. The venue is about a 15 minute drive from the city of Iseo. For those with a rental car, there will be parking at the venue (but PLEASE be responsible if you decide to drive to and from the wedding venue). We will coordinate shuttles to the event, and have drivers and taxis prepared to take people back to Iseo (or where they are staying) throughout the night, until the end of the reception.
