In 2014, Krystina and Justin both were accepted to Duke University School of Medicine and in April of that year they attended the school's second look weekend. At that time they did not speak much, but Justin thought Krystina was very pretty while Krystina thought Justin had a friendly face and seemed like a quiet, nice man who's shorts were just perhaps a bit too short. They went their separate ways until school started that August. Impressed by Krystina's intelligence, shortly after school began Justin asked Krystina to be his "study enemy." Soon after, they began studying together all the time. They alternated besting each other on exams. Quickly their relationship grew beyond studying and they went on their first official date to the Morehead Planetarium for Krystina's birthday. A few months after on March 9, 2015 Justin asked Krystina to be his girlfriend and the dynamic duo was born!
