We are getting married on May 28th, 2022 in an intimate ceremony with immediate family. It made sense for us and our personalities. We are excited to celebrate in a reception with everyone on August 5th, 2022!
We aren't embarassed to admit it, we met on Hinge (online dating app). Kevin saw that Roopa had a photo of herself holding a tennis racket. Being at the start of the pandemic, Kevin had absolutely NO CLUE how to date in the middle of all this. But he had seen an article saying that playing tennis was one of the safest activities around, so he decided to make the ask. "Roopa! We should totally play tennis together! I read an article that said it was super safe. Let's go!" Boom. We went. And life felt... normal... homey. Just what we both needed as all this chaos started. Kevin knew Roopa was a catch when Stumpy had a seizure at 11pm at night, and Roopa took them to the doggy ER until 2:30am. Roopa said, "I would do it for anyone." And he decided that he wanted to be with a woman who would do that for anyone. Roopa has fallen for Kevin's compassion for his community and drive to make the world a better place. He is truly one of a kind and she can't wait for her people to meet him (pandemic travel has been difficult!) It's been a journey, and we would like to celebrate our partnership with you!
Roopa is a pediatrician in a federally qualified health center and works mostly with Spanish-speaking families. She speaks Spanish most of of the day, and loves her patients and families. Roopa lured Kevin in with her ability to make homemade sorbet and her ability to talk with anyone. She's got a compassionate fire to her. And her humor is top-notch. Kevin is the executive director of the Beaverton Downtown Association, a historic preservation and community development nonprofit. He brings tranquility to the relationship and teaches Roopa to slow down and see her surroundings. He is also running for Beaverton City Council this year, so it's a full year. By coincidence, we both moved to Oregon in Summer 2018. It was a cross-country move for both of us, Roopa from Michigan and Kevin from North Carolina. In our free time you will find us biking, hiking, and playing tennis (lets be realistic, its a lot of couch sitting too, watching TV and Kevin cooking a casserole). We both very much miss our people back in our home states but are making life together here in Beaverton, OR.
Kevin spent a lot of time Whatsapp-ing people in India to find Roopa the perfect simple but elegant ring from an Indian jeweler. He finally found the perfect one and then left the reciept on the countertop and Roopa opened it (it was unlabeled and mysterious). Luckily, she immediately forgot. Fast foward 4 weeks in California Redwoods at Jedidiah State Park. Kevin and Roopa were hiking with Pooja (Roopa's sister) and Sri (her fiance). Kevin had remebered a specific tree on a specific hike several years prior, even before meeting Roopa. When they finally reached the tree he made Roopa pose facing the tree. After 20 seconds of awkward silence, Roopa finally turned around to find Kevin on one knee. He said "Ya gonna marry me?" and she said "Thank you!". They finally started their life partnership amongst nature's giants, the Redwoods.
