We met as kids, both 14, both living in Clear Lake, and ended up having mutual friends. For Dezarae, it was much easier for her to "click" with a group of male friends, then a group of female friends (plus boys are a lot less drama, haha). And for Skyler? Well, he was just hanging out with his buddies. Four years of friendship later they were both graduating high school. Dezarae had moved to Mason City into a tiny apartment above an insurance company while she attended NIACC, and Skyler had moved in with his dad in Mason City, where he also decided to go NIACC, unknown to each other. After around a year of no communication, Skyler and Dezarae ended up walking into the same college class together. This quickly rekindled their friendship and made them both realize that they had only been living a few minutes away from each other this entire time. Shortly after this rekindling, Dezarae found out the lease on her apartment was running up and the insurance owner had decided to keep his building strictly an insurance building. With 30 days to find a new place to live, Skyler and his father, John, graciously invited her into their bachelor pad (haha). Dezarae had planned to move out in two weeks promising to find her own place, but it soon became clear that neither John nor Skyler wanted her to move out, and honestly, she didn't want to either. After 6 months of living together and being "just best friends", Skyler and Dezarae finally admitted to each other that they had feelings deeper than friendship. After saving up some money, Skyler and Dezarae moved into a duplex of their own to start their lives together. Almost a year later, Skyler and Dezarae were out on a bike ride in Mason City and decided to walk across the Music Man Square bridge. Dezarae was looking over the bridge and to her surprise when she turned around Skyler was down on one knee, obviously, she said yes. Our story is one of seven years of friendship, thank you for being apart of it.
Skyler totally distracted Dezarae with baby geese to get her to look over the bridge.....she couldn't find them. When he said her name, she turned around, and, to her surprise, he was down one knee. The first words out of her mouth were obviously yes...the second thing out of her mouth was asking if there were actually any geese...which there were, by the way. Dezarae is just blind...but we all already knew that (haha).
