Known for its dramatic canyon walls, ancient cliff dwellings, and Native American heritage, this monument offers a mix of beauty and history that’s truly captivating. The drive from Phoenix to Canyon de Chelly in one day is quite long, so we always recommend driving the Pinetop the first days and spending a few days in the White Mountains, before driving the rest of the way to the Canyon. Canyon de Chelly is also fascinating as it is a great example of collaboration between the Navajo Nation and the US National Park Service. In Fact all of the park rangers at this park are both members of the Navajo Nation and certified trained US Park Rangers. It is truly a great example of the land we can preserve when we work together.
