Question

What do I wear?

Answer

You have lots of choices and flexibility to wear what you are comfortable with. You are welcome to wear western ("American") formal for any events. If you'd like to get festive, we will not stop you! Ladies: Lehenga - 2 piece with a blouse and a gown with a duppata (the draping/scarf). You can drop the dupatta for a more western look. Anarkli - these are longer dresses that go down to your ankles complimented with a dupatta. These are great for a casual dress or you can dress up! Gown dresses - Indo-western style that are floor length gowns I would stay away from saree as much as possible, these can be complicated to wear if you have never worn it before. Guys: Traditional wear is usually a Shervani or Kurta which men wear to pre-wedding festivities and the ceremony. However, men can wear dress pants for the ceremony and khakis and a shirt for any other events. For the reception, men wear a suit! Easy enough.

Question

Where can I buy indian outfits?

Answer

Google can lead you to many different websites, but here are the top websites to look at: Utsav Fashion, Panash Fasion, Mirraw, Lashkaraa NOTE: When purchasing Indian attire online, you will want to add the option of custom stitching, otherwise, you'll get an unstitched dress & I don't know about you, but sewing a dress isn't exactly my forte. Indian clothes are often customized so keep an eye out for measurement guides for you to get your outfit custom fit.

The word "Sangeet" means music so basically this celebration is a large dance party the day before the wedding. Dances, usually bollywood Style, are performed by relatives, close friends, and the bridal party. Afterwards, the dance floor is open for traditional styles of dancing. Garba is a dance style originating in Gujarat, performed in a large circle. There are the standard 2 taali ("clap") and 3 ("clap") dances, and there are more advanced versions people may end up doing. Raas (or "dandiya" is a danced done in pairs while holding sticks ("dandiya"). The dance involves hitting your partner's stick with your own while following the beat of the music.
