How We Met

November Something, 2014

Roseanne: We met the old fashioned way - at a bar! A mutual friend, Lindsey introduced us at my favorite bar - Little Rock. Well, I think she said "TED, you like art, my friend Roseanne also likes art, come meet her!" Within a few minutes we discovered we had a number of people in common, including my brother! Weird. We chatted for a little while, then went back to our groups. A couple weeks later I saw him again at Little Rock (did I mention it's my favorite bar?!), he asked for my number and said he might give me call sometime to go out. I heard from him about a week later and we set our first date. We enjoyed delicious tacos, played old school arcade games at 16-Bit Arcade & Bar, had a drink or two, and never stopped talking and laughing the entire evening. I even got a slap bracelet out of a vending machine! It was pretty soon after that, that we decided 'this was something special'. TED: We were at Little Rock. I'd been coming in on Tuesday nights (Karaoke Nite and no, I don't sing) and had met some of the regulars. One night a new acquaintance, Lindsey Kelly comes over and says, "TED! You like art! Come meet my friend Rose - she likes art too.", and then pulls me over to her table. I was immediately struck by Roseanne's eyes. I remember laughing and joking together and at some point I asked her if she wanted to go out. She gave me her number and I remember being suuupper nervous when I had to leave a message on her voicemail. But it must've been decent because she called me back and we went out. We haven't really stopped hanging out since then.

The Proposal

3.23.19

Rose: We took a trip to one of our favorite record stores on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, as we were looking through the records near the back of the store, I hear a very particular song come on. Ever the romantic, I turn around looking at Ted and say "Why are they playing this song?". Ted says, "I don't know, come over here.". Again, "Why are they playing this song?". By this time, Ted is on one knee (IN public!!) asking me to marry him, be apart of his family and continue this journey we are on. I of course said YES! Only then to realize it is very quiet, the song has stopped, and everyone in the record store is just staring as us. The owner, Amy, shouts "What did you say?" I show off the new accessory, tell her I said yes, and we all get a big cheer. IT WAS THE BEST. Ted then had a day full of surprises, ending with a surprise post proposal gathering at our bar (Little Rock Bar) with about 100 of our friends and family. TED: I had ordered the ring before Christmas in 2018 and it took a while to get in. It came in late January and I had to hide it in the house. Rose isn't one to poke around, but that's some heavy artillery to just have on hand. For the proposal, I knew I wanted to incorporate "I Will" by the Beatles somehow, and given our shared enjoyment of record collecting I took to looking for a 45 copy. Well, it seems "I Will" was only released as a 45 once as a B-side to Ob-La-Di. In the Philippines. I finally found a copy from a dealer in Germany. I still marvel how a small record released in the Philippines made it to Germany and then to Columbus, OH. Fate? Anyway, the plan started to come together and I just called in a few favors from some of our favorite places in Columbus. Brett at Spoonful Records agreed to play the 45 a few moments after I came in and that'd I'd get on my knee and all. Quinn at Little Rock let some of our friends in to decorate and family and friends alike all spread the word about the surprise. It went perfectly.
