How we met!

Fall 2017

From Rose: Funny enough, this story starts before I ever met Trent. On September 8, 2018, I met the cutest little woman I’d ever seen. She was watching her son lifting people like kettlebells and she kept calling them “cowbells”. We laughed the whole time and I thought she was adorable. Little did I know that I’d just met my future mother-in-law. Trent and I met briefly on September 21, 2017 (“Hi I’m Rose!” “Hi I’m Trent!”), but we really met on September 29, 2017. I was new to the AcroYoga scene in Austin, and he had been in the group for a few months. He wanted to try a cool trick that I’d never done before (basically the lift from “Dirty Dancing”), and I was very nervous. He looked me dead in the eyes and said “I promise I won’t drop you”. I felt complete trust in him and so safe - I think I loved him a little that night. I decided to “poof” him with my pheromones and apparently he couldn’t resist lol. I’ve never flirted that hard in my whole life! We talked all night at the Acro jam until I had to leave. Right before I left, he asked me to send him the video of our lift (which I didn’t know was his super sly way of getting my number)!! We texted all weekend long and decided to meet that Monday for AcroYoga and a movie. (We did neither 🤭). We stayed up most of the night talking and sharing and cuddling, and I knew I’d found something real. From that day on, we were inseparable.

How we met:

From Trent’s Perspective (September 2017)

My story begins around 2 weeks before Rose and I met for real. At an acro jam, I saw one of my friends struggling to perform a trick (“monkey frog” I think) with this very cute brunette who I assumed he was dating. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and a contagious laugh. We tried it and nailed the trick a few times right away! Afterwards she introduced herself as Rose and I figured that was that and I’d never see her again. A few weeks later, I walked into acro and I saw Rose walking in again too! This time she was with one of her girlfriends and I said hi and gave her a big hug. She was so cute! I couldn’t help it...I wanted to be near her all night. We filmed some cool tricks, and I thought it was my chance to ask for her number so I asked if she could text me the video so I could have it. After she left, I couldn’t get her out of my mind. I went to dinner that night with a bunch of the acro peeps and sat with someone who knew Rose a bit and I asked him about her...is she single? ...is she normal?? ...what’s her story??? He said “yes...mostly...and you’ll have to ask her.” Works for me! I texted her all the next day. Soon I said I’d love to see her again if possible. She said that she was taking a doula class over the weekend, but that she’d also like to see me too! I said that we should do acro and a movie the following Monday evening, and she said yes! Rose came over Monday, and when I opened the door I saw the sweetest person looking at me. When I looked into her big blue doe eyes I realized I could never hurt her. Instead of acro and a movie, we just sat in the corner of the couch talking and laughing and snuggling. We talked religion, politics, past relationships, and all of those other taboo things “you’re not supposed to talk about on a first date.” I couldn’t believe how much we had in common. Our connection was immediate and incredible. So quickly I realized I’d found my person. The one God wanted for me all along. I’m the luckiest man alive.

How he asked!

Banff National Park - September 12, 2018

So I went with our neighbor Katie to go look at rings at Calvin’s jewelers in June. I found the perfect one. Apparently Trent had been to Calvin’s before I arrived, texted Calvin Jr. that I was on my way, and went and got my ring the next day! He had been hinting that he would likely propose in November so that his mom could be there when it happened. I was clueless. Fast forward to September and our trip to Banff National Park. We arrived on a Saturday, and that evening Trent lost his wallet. We looked everywhere and in every single pocket of his suitcase, backpack, and jacket. We left nothing unturned. We found it in the car later that evening, and the next day when I joked that Banff would be the perfect place to propose, he reminded me that we’d already searched everywhere in his stuff. Where would he have hidden it? September 12 (my best day ever), we went to Moraine Lake at sunrise with our small travel group. It was perfect. The water was the most beautiful light turquoise color I’d ever seen. The water had no ripples on it and was almost like a mirror. For a year, we have been taking pictures doing a beautiful standing high backbend, and so when he said this spot on the lake shore with mountains behind us would be a lovely spot to do one I thought that sounded like a good idea. I went up in the air like normal, but I could feel him moving underneath and something felt different. When he put me down, I just thought we needed to reset and try again. I turned around, and he was on his knee and asked me to marry him. What I didn’t see was that our friend Lily (who unknown to me had been harboring my ring for several weeks - including through airport security) had run over and handed Trent the ring box while I was upside down. Everything was beautiful. I kept asking if it was real. Of course I said “Yes!!” Our friends were there for hugs, and because of them, we have beautiful pictures and videos of it happening and truly can’t thank them enough
