The heart of downtown Santa Fe for nearly 400 years, the Plaza remains the central part of the city. Native American jewelers and artisans line the Plaza each day displaying their wares and are the best source for turquoise and silver jewelry as well as handmade pottery. Some accept credit cards, but it is best to bring cash.
The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, opened to the public in July 1997, eleven years after the death of our namesake artist. A visit to the O’Keeffe Museum offers insight not only into the artist’s paintings, but also her creative process and the light and landscape that inspired her. We visit the Museum on almost every trip and are constantly inspired by O'Keeffe's sense of adventure and general badassery. Don't miss this while you are here.
Located just off Santa Fe Plaza at 202 East Palace Avenue, the store offers a beautiful combination of Jules Barth's artisan jewelry with select vintage apparel and jewelry from the Southwest. The store is a great introduction to the much larger collection available by appointment at the Santa Fe Showroom. Waiting to find the perfect accessory for your cowboy black tie look?? We'd suggest looking no further than Santa Fe Vintage.
Lucchese makes the best luxury boots on the market. Located on the Plaza, you'll be able to choose from ostrich, elk, alligator, buffalo...or cowhide, if you're a purist. Even if you're not looking to shell out $$$ on boots this trip, we highly recommend browsing the shop anyway.
A wonderful bookstore located just off the Plaza with a small coffeehouse inside in case you're in need of a sip, snack, or just a place to recharge. A great place to pick up a cookbook with New Mexican recipes. Fun fact: Drew and Lauren never miss an opportunity to support a local bookstore and stopped in to Shakespeare & Co. right before Drew proposed in Paris.
Meow Wolf creates immersive, interactive experiences to transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of story and exploration. The group’s first permanent installation, launched in March 2016 with support from Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin, showcases the THEA Award-winning House of Eternal Return, where guests discover a multidimensional mystery house with secret passages, portals to magical worlds, climbing apparatus, and surreal, maximalist & mesmerizing art exhibits along with a children’s learning center.
Classic New Mexican food and pretty amazing margaritas. The Shed is a Romo-family favorite. Lunch is served from 11-2:30pm and tables are first come, first serve. But grab a margarita if there is a wait and start to figure out if you'll have your enchiladas with Red, Green, or Christmas-style. They do accept reservations for dinner but note that they are closed on Sundays.
A restaurant beloved by tourists and locals alike- the decor is eclectic and the food is outstanding. We came for lunch with our Moms on our most recent visit (there was an hour + wait, so we passed the time with a tasting across the street at Gruet) and had the best BLT (with Chile Rubbed Bacon) that any of us had ever tasted.
A fine dining icon of Santa Fe since 1983, Santacafé specializes in serving unique American cuisine with a southwestern flair. If it's warm out, the courtyard is where you should ask to sit. Note: Drew and I celebrated our first anniversary over dinner at SantaCafe.
Serving contemporary American cuisine highlighting the best of the season in support of independent farmers and artisan producers. Be sure to order a Rye cocktail (it's a part of their name for a reason) and enjoy an excellent dinner in Santa Fe. We visited with our Moms on our last trip and we give it eight thumbs up!
The tasting room just off the lobby of the Hotel St. Francis offers a sampling of Gruet's award-winning wines. We are pretty much obsessed with Gruet sparkling wine and tend to bring it with us everywhere we go- we've probably brought a bottle to your house. Top-rated American sparkling wine made...in you guessed it...New Mexico. #notsponsored #justhugefans
Traditional New Mexican food located in the Santa Fe Railyard amongst other bars, restaurants and just off the RailRunner train depot. Lauren and her Dad would always opt for the Carne Adovada platter! Enchiladas are always a good bet as are the stuffed sopaipillas (a puffed, fried, dough similar to a beignet but savory!) Get a pitcher of margaritas too!
After shopping on the plaza or visiting the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, stop for a margarita at the Anasazi Bar and Lounge at the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi. A Romo family favorite and now a place that Drew and Lauren love to stop in and have a margarita or two. If it's warm out, try to grab a spot on the patio.
We HIGHLY recommend getting lunch or a drink at the rooftop cantina at Coyote Cafe. Located just off the Plaza and up 2 flights of stairs, the Cantina is one of our favorite places to eat a scenic lunch in warm months. Great margaritas, burgers, tacos and nachos.
The waters at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs have been deemed sacred by the 8 Northern Pueblo tribal communities for nearly 3,000 years. Pueblo ruins rest just above the property. About an hour drive north of Santa Fe, you can choose to visit for the day to enjoy the unique combination of four different sulfur-free mineral waters (Lithia, Iron, Soda and Arsenic) or extend your stay and book spa treatments and lodging here.
Perched on top of a hillside just ten minutes from downtown Santa Fe, this Japanese spa is one of the best places in the area to unwind. Come for the day and enjoy the communal hot tubs with vistas out onto the Sangre de Cristo mountains, book a massage or spa treatment with a private hot tub. Or do it all and book a stay overnight in one of the rooms in The House of the Moon.
This Fiesta will run from September 22-29 and is a fantastic place to experience New Mexican green and red chile, some of Santa Fe's best food/restaurants, and wines from all over the world. We hate to sound like a broken record here, but consider starting your trip to Santa Fe a few days before #romosaysidrew to attend some of the awesome guest chef luncheons, dinners and wine seminars. Tickets will go on sale on July 5, 2019.
A can't-miss event in Albuquerque each Fall, the Balloon Fiesta kicks off the weekend AFTER #romosaysidrew. This event requires you to get up before dawn to get to the Balloon Fiesta park, but you will be rewarded with a truly magical morning of hot air balloons, incredible views of the Sandia Mountains, and delicious green chile breakfast burritos. We are encouraging our friends and family to make an extended trip out of their visit to the southwest to explore and enjoy the Land of Enchantment.
