WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?
Answer
Crested Butte has typical mountain climate. In the fall, plan for cold in the morning, warm and sunny during the day, and temps dropping into the low 40's at night. Weather can also be unpredictable - sunny one moment and raining or snowing the next. Layers, rain jackets, and warm coats/fleeces are a great idea. Our celebration will be held in Gothic Colorado, just a few miles further into the mountains, nestled at the foot of Gothic mountain but weather should be similar to Crested Butte.

HOW WILL THE ALTITUDE AFFECT YOU?
Answer
The town of Crested Butte sits at an altitude of 8,885 ft and if you are coming up in elevation, you will likely feel it. Take it easy particularly if this is your first time at high altitude, it is best to arrive early and give yourself 24-48 hours to acclimate. If you don't have this luxury of time, beware of certain things such as alcohol intake, or physical exercise that may affect you differently. Alcohol 2-3 drinks at sea level = 1 drink at altitude. Hydrate like crazy to avoid altitude sickness! Stop by the oxygen bar at Sea Level Spa on Elk for extra help with the altitude!

It might! It is unlikely, but always be prepared in Colorado.

WHAT IS A BRIEF HISTORY OF CRESTED BUTTE?

Crested Butte was first occupied by the Ute people who were driven out by European trappers and surveyors. In the 1860s and '70s, coal and silver mines opened in the surrounding areas. Crested Butte survived because it acted as a supply town to many of the mines. Ranching was the other industry in the valley, and it is still prominent today. Now Crested Butte is called "The Last Great Colorado Ski Town”! The ski resort, which opened in 1960, is known for its extreme terrain. It is one of the birthplaces of freeskiing and has helped revolutionize it by holding annual Freeski and telemark extreme skiing competitions. The town also claims to be the birthplace of mountain biking and was home to the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame until 2014. It is the official Wildflower Capital of Colorado, and the nearby Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory studies the valley's rich and diverse ecology. The town, itself, has a fun and funky vibe all its own. Local Tip: the locals call it "CB".

A place with the power, and the vision, to change the world.” RMBL Vision In a rapidly changing world, RMBL sustains our quality of life by accelerating discoveries about the ecosystems that replenish the world’s air, water, and food supplies. RMBL was founded in 1928 on the remains of an abandoned mining town in Gothic, Colorado. Approximately 180 people are in residence there during the summer field season. Over 1500 scientific publications have been based on work from the Laboratory.

We chose RMBL because of its beauty, significance, and its symbolic atmosphere. The beauty of this area is a thing of movies, magazines, and imagination. Pictures can say a thousand words, but an experience doesn’t need them. We met in this area….We grew to love each other in this area….This area holds a piece of each of our souls and now we are going to officially join our lives forever here. Lastly, the ever changing yet ever constant atmosphere of RMBL is directly symbolic of our love for each other and our future together. Of all the places in the world to marry my forever adventure partner, I couldn’t think of a more perfect place.
