Roger and Greta were set up in February of 2020, by Greta's close high school friend, Becca, who then became one of Roger's close college friends at Winona State University. At the time, Greta was attending Millikin University in Decatur, IL, so, if successful, the relationship would involve over 2 more years of long distance. Not long after they started talking, the world shut down for COVID, and they each went back to their hometowns in Owatonna, MN and Racine, WI. In this situation, they found Winona, MN to be a good middle location to get to see each other in person, especially because of all the outdoor recreation opportunities. Their first date was rock climbing on Sugar Loaf in April of 2020. They continued seeing each other every few weeks throughout that spring and summer, and by the time they had to return to school in the fall, they decided to stick out the remaining 2 years of long distance in hopes of being able to go to the same grad school for the next chapter. After graduation, the two packed up and moved across the country to attend grad school at University of Washington in Seattle, where they are pursuing PhDs in chemistry (Greta) and physics (Roger). In the past 3 years, they've built a life together in their cozy little apartment, enjoying the beauty of the PNW and the excitement of the city. Most importantly, in March of 2024 they adopted a rescue pit bull, Lena. Training and rehabilitating Lena has been the most challenging and rewarding task they have faced as a couple, and from this, they know they are ready to take on a lifetime of new challenges together.
