How We Met

All because I didn't want to be bored at Disneyland...

How Vanessa Met Rudy, In mid-October of 2015, I was planning a trip to Disneyland with my cousin Lucy who was visiting from Mexico. Knowing how long the lines can be, she suggested that we download dating apps and talk to guys while we waited. I decided to make an OK Cupid profile the night before, upload the cutest pictures and see what happens. I remember being at Disney California Adventure and getting a message from a cute guy with a beard. We chatted all day and found out that we had a lot in common. Our chats went on for about a week before Rudy and I decided to meet for dinner and the rest, is history.

The Proposal

Not the smoothest proposal and the ring that almost didn't make it

The night started out with the two of us having a romantic dinner to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary. She had no idea and I was a nervous wreck. She was expecting a quiet dinner and I don't think she was expecting it. I was supposed to pick up the ring earlier in the day but it was not ready, so instead it was on its way to be delivered to the restaurant. The hostess knew about it and she was going to help get me the ring without Vanessa ever noticing but I was sure she would see my cousin delivering the ring and catch on to the plan. We finally got seated and were ready to enjoy the evening. As the night continued, I tried to act as normal as possible. We chatted and enjoyed the night like we usually do but I thought I would eventually botch it because I was sweating way too much and the drinks I had did not help calm the nerves. When the ring finally arrived, the hostess walked towards the table to give me the subtle nod we had discussed to let me know the ring was here. But she was not subtle. AT ALL. and nearly ruined the night. You see, she walked by the table and instead of just nodding, she looked at me with a big surprised look. Her eyes were wide open and she nodded for what seemed like 5 minutes. She looked more like a hostage trying to get some help. In that span of about 3-4 seconds, I thought Vanessa would look up and I would have to explain why the hostess was looking the way she was. Luckily for me, Vanessa didn’t notice this and I was ready to pass out from the nerves. I excused myself to the restroom and picked up the ring from the front. When the time came for me to propose, I was so nervous that the long speech I planned went out the window. I looked her in the eyes and told her what she means to me. I knew she was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I didn’t get down on one knee as planned and instead I placed the ring on the table in front of her and asked her if she would be my wife.. ...and she said yes.
