We first met through a dating app called Hinge. We chatted for a month or so before deciding to schedule our first date, but for some reason, we just couldn't seem to find a good day that both of us were free to meet in person. After several days of back and forth, Sara said, "Well, maybe it's just not meant to be." Garrett responded with, "No, I still really want to meet you." After we were FINALLY able to figure out a time that worked, we met up at Wild Mind for some drinks, great conversation and lots of laughs. The rest is history.
We wanted a long weekend away to just unwind and relax, so both of us took some time off of work and made plans to spend a couple days up at Garrett's cabin, as well as a night in Stillwater so we could check out some scenery and see the beautiful changing leaves. While at the cabin, Garrett remained cool as he carried the ring around trying to find the right time to pop the question. He had multiple scenarios worked out in is head, but none of them seemed just right. We wrapped up our time at the cabin and headed for Stillwater. Our hotel, The Lora, offered us a romantic picnic for two including a selection of delicious meats, cheeses, wine and a blanket to take wherever we wanted. On our way to pick up our picnic goodies, Garrett said, "I think we should go to Pioneer Park." This was the point where Sara started to get a little suspicious (and not so subtly started filing her nails, just in case). Pioneer Park is up on a hill which overlooks the town of Stillwater and the St. Croix River. We picked a spot with a gorgeous view and started to enjoy our snacks. Garrett didn't have much of an appetite, as we was getting more nervous as time passed. We eventually finished eating and were talking about heading to Maple Island Brewing next. Sara started to pack up the picnic when out of the corner of her eye, she saw Garrett look around and then reach for his pocket. Out came a little black box and the words "I want to spend forever with you, will you marry me?" Short, simple, and perfect. "YES!" was the answer, and we spent the rest of the day smiling and celebrating.
