The Wedding Website of Robin Swanhuyser and Jacob Rachniowski
Question

Are kids allowed?

Answer

We love your little kiddos, but we’ve decided to keep our ceremony and reception an adults-only affair. With a limited number of guests at the wedding venue, we wanted to invite as many friends and family as we could. We hope you can enjoy a night off and celebrate with us! If you do decide to travel with you kids, we hope to see them before and after the wedding and would be happy to help try and connect you with childcare options for the day-of.

Question

Why such an early RSVP date? (March 1, 2025)

Answer

We intentionally set our RSVP date early (March 1, 2025) to encourage people to confirm and make their travel plans well in advance. The Gorge is a popular tourist travel destination and gets busy in July. We advise booking accommodations early, well before March 2025, as places book up quickly and it's a small community with limited options. Connect with us if you have any questions or concerns and we'd be happy to offer advice and support on where to stay.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We live on the border of Oregon and Washington, which is divided by the Columbia River. The Hood River Bridge costs $3.50 per passenger vehicle to cross each way. The communities on both sides of the river are really connected and it's easy to cross back and forth depending on which side you pick your accommodations. We live in Underwood (on the Washington side) and the Wedding ceremony will also be hosted in Underwood, Washington. While there are a number of Airbnb options and hotels on the Washington side in White Salmon, the options are more limited than Hood River. Hood River, Oregon offers more hotel and Airbnb options and has more of a walkable downtown area if you book something in town. While the wedding will be in Washington we will offer a shuttle from Hood River to the venue, and any after party will likely be hosted in downtown Hood River.

Question

Should I rent a car?

Answer

Yes, we highly encourage renting a car or carpooling with other guests. While you "might" be able to get an Uber from the PDX airport to Hood River (1 hour away), there are no Ubers serving our area locally and you will not be able to count on that for a return journey. The Amtrack train is not a great option as it only runs once a day and is often delayed. The CAT bus runs from Portland to Hood River can be an option and will require coordinating local transport in Hood River using one of the local and few taxi services. https://www.ridecatbus.org/columbia-gorge-express/ There are several local private taxis, but they require you arrange the trip in advance and may have long delays. Here are the numbers for some local cabs: Hood River EV Taxi: 541-645-0667 Pedicab: 541-714-3130 Gorge Taxi: 541-399-5060 Designated Driver Taxi: 509-281-0434 Gorge PDX Shuttle: 541-800-2028
