The Wisconsin State Capitol is the centerpiece of downtown Madison and one of the most beautiful capitol buildings in the country. Take a stroll through the rotunda, admire the architecture, and enjoy views of Capitol Square decorated for the holidays.
One of our favorite Madison holiday traditions is driving along John Nolen Drive to see the Christmas lights. Fun fact: This is where we got engaged! ❤️ If you're arriving before the wedding or staying after, we highly recommend taking a drive along the lakefront after dark to enjoy the holiday lights and the beautiful views of the Capitol skyline. Lights are on at dusk every night. Candy canes from 4:30pm to 10:00pm every night. Cash donation suggested.
State Street connects the Capitol to the University of Wisconsin campus and is lined with local shops, bookstores, coffee houses, restaurants, and bars. It's a great way to experience Madison's unique personality.
Enjoy a trek down State Street and up Bascom Hill to visit the iconic Lincoln statue and enjoy the beautiful architecture on campus.
The Memorial Union sits right on the shores of Lake Mendota and offers some of the best views in the city. While the famous Terrace chairs are tucked away for the winter, the Union remains a great place to explore, relax, and grab a bite to eat.
