Question

I’ve never been to an Indian wedding before. What should I expect?

Answer

Traditionally, Indian weddings tend to be large, loud, and very vibrant. Although each region of India has its own specific customs, the general concept is the same – it’ll be a Big Fat Indian Wedding, filled with bright colors, music, and plenty of food and dancing. Although family members will have a role, the remainder of the guests are invited to sit back and enjoy. Refer to the 'Schedule' section of the website for a more detailed break down of the events.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

There are several different types of Indian outfits, and there no specific requirements for what types of outfits should be worn. In addition, guests are certainly NOT required to wear Indian attire. We encourage guests to wear outfits that are bright and bold. Think Smart Casual. As the ceremony will be at a temple, please dress more modestly; skirts/dresses should be past the knee, higher neckline, no spaghetti straps, etc. Think high school dress code :)

Question

I still would like to wear traditional clothes!

Answer

Everyone is more than welcome (and encouraged!) to dress traditionally. Most of our Indian guests will be. If you are interested in purchasing a traditional outfit, here are a few links for women: https://www.indianclothstore.com/ https://www.houseofindya.com/ https://www.kalkifashion.com/ for men: https://www.kalkifashion.com/ethnic/trending-mens-wear.html I recommend the following styles for women: Anarkali, Palazzo, Shahara, or just a blouse/skirt combo. For men, the style I would recommend is the kurta. You can wear these with jeans. Please order as soon as possible as they may take a while to ship. Refer to this Pinterest board for ideas: https://pin.it/7nOqGSHDP If you have any questions, need advice, etc. please don't hesitate to reach out to Nikita at (224)-595-4506. And again, we want everyone to feel comfortable in what they wear. So a traditional outfit is not necessary :)

Question

What kind of food will there be?

Answer

There will be a wide variety of traditional Indian dishes, however the food will be vegetarian with no alcohol. The food will be served buffet style, so that guests will have the option to choose what they’d like to eat. Please let us know if you have any food restrictions or allergies.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Question
