Question

What should I do after I book my flight?

Answer

Please let us know your holiday plan once you have booked it! We want to keep track of people's arrival to Asia, and plans in the area.

Question

What areas do you recommend exploring in Asia?

Answer

Cambodia is a good option for travel that is near Thailand. You would land in Bangkok and there are many flights to Siem Reap or Phnom Penh. Siem Reap is home to Angkor Wat temple, a great night life, and outdoor adventures. Phnom Penh has a sad history, but is still a vibrant city with many things to do. Cambodia uses US currency! North Thailand is a beautiful area to explore. Chiang Mai and Pai are great cultural areas of Thailand with good hikes, scooter drives, waterfalls, and temples. Bangkok is a city that has it all. Temples, food, shopping, party. Rob and I love the city, and will be spending a couple nights here with our family. We plan on doing food tours and culture tours of the city Friday and Saturday. Anyone in town Saturday evening July 30th, we would love to see. We are looking into setting up a dinner, or plans to go out for a girls/guys night! Anyone in town is welcome to join.

Question

Where should I stay in Bangkok?

Answer

Bangkok has many neighborhoods, and lots of traffic. For this reason, we recommend a two areas of Bangkok: - Sukhumvit is where our family will be staying for our time in Bangkok. It's a fun area with lots of dining options and bars. There will be many hotel and hostel options in Sukhumvit, including chain hotels. Airbnb will have good options as well. - Khao San is the backpacker, party, temple area of Bangkok. You can find many hotels, and not a lot of sleep. This area is near most of the temples and the infamous Khao San road bars. Rob and I (and others) have spent many nights in this area, with redbull buckets and plates of pad thai. Our families are staying at Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road in Sukhumvit. Any tours you book will likely include transport from your hotel. Cabs are convenient to get between the areas at night. Transport from the airport is easiest by cab.

Question

How do I get into Bangkok from the airport?

Answer

Unfortunately, uber does not operate in Thailand. The easiest way to get into the city is by taking a taxi. There will be an official taxi line outside arrivals and an English speaking taxi guide will ask where you are heading. The guide will match you with a taxi. There might be people offering taxis, make sure to find the official line. In the taxi, make sure the driver turns on the meter, which is normal practice. To get into the city, the fastest way is by a toll road. They will likely automatically offer to go this route or ask, we suggest avoiding traffic and taking it. This toll (75 baht) and an additional airport fee (50 baht) is paid on top of the meter. Make sure to have cash for the driver, and we suggest breaking any 1000 baht bills at the airport before getting into the car. The fair should be between 400-450 baht total.

Question

How should I get to the ceremony and around the island?

Answer

Your accommodation should be able to recommend a transport option to get to Koh Koon Villa for the ceremony. You will pay thai baht for the trip, and you can tell the driver what time to return for a pick up. Please note, the villa is up a steep drive that not ALL cabs are able to access. Please let your accommodation host know this so they can find an appropriate driver. You can set up similar transport for other trips around the island (boat trip, tours, beaches, etc). Renting scooters is another popular option for the island. Wear a helmet! :)

Question

What are some good tours for Bangkok?

Answer

We highly recommend doing a culture temple tour. There are many temples and palaces to explore in Bangkok, and getting a tour guide gives further background that information signs won't have. Guides also help you navigate the city, and skip lines. Tripadvisor is our go to for recommended tours and guides. Shopping is a hagglers dream in Bangkok. There are many markets where you can find bags, jewelry, clothes, maybe not so real, but can be cheap. Flower markets are beautiful and local, they show a real experience of Thailand. Eat everything and often! Food tours and cooking classes are a great way to see local dining and culture. Airbnb adventures has some great options, as well as tripadvisor.

Question

What clothing should I pack?

Answer

Thailand and all of South East Asia gets variable weather in single day. Weather is usually hot and dry, with spots of rain. Rain often is short, but can be heavy. Typically comes in the afternoon, but passes quickly. We recommend packing for hot weather, with comfortable shoes that you won't mind getting wet. Beach wear is a must! Don't forget the sunscreen. For the ceremony, we are asking for you to wear smart casual. We want you to be comfortable at the ceremony and reception. No jackets are needed, but button downs would be appreciated. Great time to bust out the linen! Ladies, the venue space does have a fair bit of grass. I don't recommend stilettos for worry of sinking into the grass, but certainly up to you! Wedges or sandals would be a great option. A GREAT feature of Thailand is they offer tailor made clothes for a good value. We are going to provide information on a suit tailor for the guys on Koh Samui. More information to come.

Question

I have a food allergy or dietary restriction, can I make a special request?

Answer

Please let us know of any allergies or dietary restrictions. Thai food often contains peanuts, soy sauce, meat.

Question

How should I get Thai baht?

Answer

The easiest, most affordable, and best rate is to withdraw Thai baht from an ATM once you arrive in Thailand. Most US banks have a small fee for international withdrawals. You should withdraw funds at the airport, you will need cash for a cab from the airport. The most popular and reputable banks/ATMs in Thailand are from Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), TMB Bank, or CIMB Bank. Make sure you notify your bank and credit cards that you are travelling to Thailand before going to avoid being locked out of your account.

Question

What should I do in case of an emergency?

Answer

For emergencies, Thailand’s Tourist Police can be reached by dialing 1155, or 191 for ambulance services. The US Embassy in Bangkok can be reached at +66 2 205 4000. Our wedding planner, Aey, can also be reached at +66 870698511.

Question

Is Thailand safe?

Answer

Thailand is called the land of smiles for a reason! Thailand is generally a very safe and friendly place to be, especially on the islands. As in any large city, you should be careful to ensure your wallet or valuables are not pickpocketed. Rob and I have been to Thailand many times and have never had any issues.
