Our Story

Theresa & Joseph met through a mutual friend and fell in love. Through their relationship, they explored life together in the city of Detroit, going to church and spending quality time with family and friends. They went on their first trip together with Theresa’s family in Florida enjoying the magical experince of Disney World. Joseph knew if he could survive a family trip, that he would marry this girl. After 15 months of them dating, Joseph proposed to Theresa on his birthday. “Last night wasn’t only a special night for me on my birthday but also a day I’ll remember. She said ‘Yes.’” From there, the journey of getting married begins. Enjoy the ride! #HereComeTheClarks

Chapter One

the unexpected

February 1st, 2020: Theresa said "yes" to Joseph's proposal on his birthday at Capital Park in Detroit, MI. With Theresa starting a new job, February 11th, no time was wasted planning the wedding of her dreams! Hiring the best wedding planners, Graham Stanton, in just a few weeks, they had a venue, bridal party, band and sent out save the dates for November 7th. What happened next, no one could have expected. The entire world shut down in only one month. By March 12th, Theresa was working from home. Joe's hospitality job meant they did not see each other for weeks due to the quarantine. With the hope of this not lasting long, they held on to the wedding plans. "No way this will last till November." They picked out their registry items all while on facetime. Eventually, they got to spend time together going for walks outside and at a safe distance. As things began to progress, they still could not see hope. Along with so many couples and those in the wedding industry, a panic of what to do set in. Only an outdoor ceremony would be possible, but everywhere was booked. Thanks to their incredible planners, they got a spot at Meadowbrook Hall. The two of them wanted to be married and be together no matter what was going to happen next. Joe's mom, Sonya, and Theresa's mom, Theresa, threw a beautiful backyard wedding shower for the two of them on the date of the original wedding shower. It turned out so beautiful, having a strolling shower so guests could come and go as they pleased, and that way, we would not have too many people one space at a time. On the evening of the wedding shower, the ladies and gents threw the wedding couple a bachelorette and bachelor party. The guy's celebrated Joe with Top Golf, and the girls celebrated Theresa at a family friend's lake house.

Chapter Two

"I Do"

Showered with so much love, Theresa and Joseph could not be more grateful for all the people who surround them. One week from the shower, Joseph and Theresa are excited for the big day, sad that not all their guests will be there in person but so excited to be together. The day was beautiful, with flowers all around making the entire ambiance feel like a fairy tale. Everything was outside safely for all the guests at the ceremony, and with a live Facebook stream so everyone could watch it in real-time at home. Theresa got a new dress for the ceremony because her first dress would not be in on time. Joe had a gorgeous velvet burgundy suit that looked amazing on him. Steve Andrews, one of the founders of Kensington Church, officiated the ceremony. During the pandemic, Joe and Theresa would meet with Steve and his wife Paula outside (6ft apart) safely for pre-marriage counseling. The two vowed to love, support, and respect each other for the rest of their lives, ending the ceremony by taking communion to make sure to start their marriage with God at the center. The two sealed their promise of commitment with a kiss and heading back down the aisle as husband and wife.

Chapter Three

The Reception

Still wanting to celebrate with our friends, we moved our wedding reception from November 7th, 2020, to July 17th, 2021. As the new year started and with fears from last year's quarantine creeping in, the newlyweds and amazing planners decided to move the wedding reception again to later in 2021. On November 6th, 2021, Joseph and Theresa are excited to celebrate their love and marriage with ALL their family and friends. Join Theresa in her original dress and Joe in a handsome tuxedo as we dance the night away with a live 12-piece band, fantastic dinner, and drinks.
