Where do all great love stories begin? Obviously… at a lesbian bar full of dodgeball players. John had just been turned away from an intimate Jessie J concert at Rockwood Music Hall (tragic), so he made his way to Henrietta Hudson’s instead. Despite being a lesbian bar, it was curiously packed with a bunch of handsome men that night—one of whom was Rishi. John may have tried hitting on Rishi, who may have walked away immediately. But fate (and our friend Mike Woodruff) intervened, telling Rishi to go and talk to him. The two talked for hours, shared a cab ride home, and had their first date the very next night. The rest? History.
Full circle moment: back to Jessie J—but this time, with a twist. John planned the proposal during a stripped-down acoustic Jessie J concert at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC. More than 20 of our friends had bought tickets, so it seemed like the perfect fit. In true theatrical fashion, Jessie called Rishi up on stage for a bit involving “a doctor” and his “nurse friend” (John). After some hilarious banter about a stool sample, Jessie asked if the nurse had any questions for the doctor. John took the mic… and asked Rishi to marry him. The crowd lost their minds. Champagne was popped. Jessie sang to us backstage. It was a dream. But wait—plot twist! There was more. Surprise #1: Friends and family were waiting at Henrietta Hudson’s (yep, where it all started). Surprise #2: A dreamy suite at the Edition hotel overlooking Madison Square Park. Surprise #3: A Michelin-starred dinner, front row seats to The Music Man with Hugh Jackman, champagne at COTE, and late-night pizza at Grimaldi’s. Couldn’t have been more perfect. Full of music, magic, and a whole lotta love. We can't wait to celebrate with everyone. It'll be an EPIC NYC night to remember!
