We met on a dating app, as you do nowadays (s/o to Hinge). Our first date was at Newfields at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, which quickly became the site for many future date nights. I got there early, as usual, and was undeniably nervous. We met in the lobby, and after a somewhat awkward hello, we walked out to the beer garden, where we spent an hour sitting and talking and getting to know one another. The rest of the afternoon was passed walking in and around the museum, even though it was surprisingly hot for a late September afternoon. I remember thinking it was the best first date I had ever been on, and that I could have spent three more hours just wandering around the museum with him. When I got home, my roommate Maura was sitting on the couch, and asked me how it went. I just remember responding with "I think I'm in trouble."
Patrick was anxious to propose, but had been waiting for a day when both of our families and friends would be able to get together to celebrate. Thanks to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown, it was looking like that wouldn't be happening for quite some time so, tired of waiting, he decided to propose on a somewhat random Wednesday afternoon. He figured since it was the middle of the week, I wouldn't be expecting it (he was right, I was totally surprised). We took our dog, Sadie, to one of our favorite places, Garfield Park, to drink some beers and throw the frisbee, and while my back was turned, Patrick hung the ring on the hook of Sadie's leash. He asked me to lean down and let Sadie off the leash, which I was hesitant to do because if you know Sadie at all, she's not the most well behaved dog when out in public. He convinced me to do it after a moment of bickering, so I leaned down and finally noticed the ring. He got down on one knee, said a few words which neither of us remember, and I said yes! We took the next hour to ourselves, before FaceTiming our families to tell them the news, and then celebrated with our favorite Thai food takeout. We're so excited to dance the night away with you all! Thank you so much for helping us celebrate!
