We're getting married!

We met in August 2018. Jake had moved to California from Texas just a couple months prior. He got a job where I worked in Huntington Beach. We spent 5 days a week together and became each other’s best friends. For a year, Jake took me on dinner dates that I didn’t really understand were dates, sitting on beaches until the early morning, and belting the new Jonas Brothers album together after work. Eventually, I got the hint that he wanted more than friendship and the summer of 2019 was spent adventuring and him breaking out of the friend zone. On October 12, 2019, we made it official.

Under the guise of doing a family photo shoot, Jake drove Maverick, Jessica (his older sister who would be the photographer) and I to Victoria Beach in Laguna. Side note: this beach is where we had our very first real date and where we did our maternity shoot for our son. Suffice it to say, lots of history here! Here I was, thinking, “Oh crap, the baby is being fussy! He needs a nap and there’s no way we’re going to be able to get any good photos in time!”. It worked to Jake’s plan perfectly for Mav to get fussy, put him down in the beach tent and say we should do some “couples” photos. We were posing for the camera when he started reminiscing about our first date. I heard him say, “And so, I thought this would be the perfect place to ask you to marry me.” I turned to see him kneeling and pulling out a ring. In all honestly, I kind of blacked out during the speech. All I remember was surprise, elation, and the look on his face. It was finally happening! I was in a movie. We were in heaven. It was beautiful. My sister and brother-in-law had sneakily and ever so cutely appeared to watch our baby while we went off with Jessica to take some post-proposal photos, basking in that newly engaged glow. There was a gorgeous sunset, dolphins, rain, thunder and lightning. It was unforgettable and perfect.
